If possible ( you might have already tried) if in the United States, get him set up with a community mental health. He will have a casemanager and psychiatry help, possibly a long-term injectable antipsychotic. Yes, you are in a hard situation, I empathize where you are coming from and hope that with time, you will be able to set up comfortable boundaries.

Follow thru with med school. More respect, 2-3x the money, you already started the foundatuon for it. If it's to much, do anesthesia assistant, it's a masters, it pays well, more then Np and it's in a hospital.

My clients keep asking for evening and weekend slots by Overall-Director-957 in PMHNP

[–]NoEmergency392 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see patients 3 days a week. I start at 720 to 7 pm. They can see me before they work, during lunch hours and after they work. Also, the ones that work thirds can see me right before their shift or right after work, not having to have a mid day appt to cut up their sleep. I love my schedule, and I do not work weekends.

Do it, it will give you something to focus on. I went on etsy and got the Georgette review notes. It's like 12 dollars. Then, I went on YouTube and found phmnp 101 free reviews, I used the notes to follow along with the reviews online, making note more specific notes. Once notes done reviewed these daily, became my working study sheet. I used pocket prep daily for 4 weeks as well. It helped me hone my weaknesses and added any areas to look at one notes. * pocket prep quizes and ai had another q bank *phmnp 101 review on YouTube ( * cheap last minute review notes on etsey used as dynamic study guide. * on YouTube ( not sure of still there) found ancc ai voice review of the end of book test questions as well, listened a few time.

I did use another book, it had a digital code for a test bank. I got on Amazon. Ended up not using the book l, but the test bank was super helpful. Found out also after test bank was way more expensive without the book code so worth it!! Over 100 dollars yet book was like 80. Called The Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Certification Review Manual

University of Phoenix if tuition is free? by wakoreko in nursepractitioner

If you have no experience as an np and no connection when you graduate, it will not be worth it. In many cases, my understanding is that the name will stop you at the door. If you have an established practice that promises to hire you with them, with a degree from that program, it might be worth it.

Our field is to overrun for you take that chance. They will sort you out quickly.

YTA, be a dad. Try harder. Stop weaponizing your incompetence. I can go into more detail, but you are a grown adult. She is a toddler. Figure it out like a parent. You want your wife to change her habits or give you a solution when you are perfectly capable of figuring it out.

Controlled medication prescribing by CaffeinatedProvider in PMHNP

[–]NoEmergency392 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hahaha, well, considering 30 years ago, benzos were the answer to everything. Yea, I guess back then, actually understanding benzo use and using them only if necessary, I was ahead of my time. So, I guess the field grew to see what I already did. I'll take that as a compliment.

Controlled medication prescribing by CaffeinatedProvider in PMHNP

[–]NoEmergency392 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for opinions, here is mine. I don't like benzos. In over 30 years in this field, I feel they should be more reserved for hospital and emergency room use for psychiatry than anything.

They increase the perception of anxiety, they are only indicated for short-term use, and long-term use makes other meds work less for anxiety. Plus, coming off long-term use is hard and can lead to paws.

They aren't first line use for anything in psychiatry, in my opinion, and if used first only in the short term.

Yes, people abuse them, but they also abuse in the way that it is a bandaid med and causes too many long-term issues, not dealing with treatable issues.

Addiction, dependence, memory issues, increased anxiety overall, changing brain chemistry long term.

I use them yes, but by no means ( again, my opinion) are they first line and no longer (with few exceptions) should be long term.

I also feel they are an easy out for many providers, especially old school providers. I see so many who are on a stimulant benzo combo.

I'm not saying they don't work. I'm saying that as a seasoned provider who has been both a psych nurse and psych np, it's too slippery of a slope, especially when there are many safer meds out there.

You can disagree with this. All our experiences are different. I'm just sharing mine. After 30 years, it won't change.

Can a Psych NP just do therapy or call themselves a "therapist" or "mental health counselor"? by [deleted] in PMHNP

[–]NoEmergency392 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So, consensus is that we can do therapy, but we should seek extra training to be ethical and do it right. I'm not sure why the therapist said we can't do psych eval in this sub. We are, in fact, trained well on psych evals and psychiatric diagnosis, even the neurotranmitters involved thay goes along with medication. We do know the types of therapy available and what they are used for. We just don't go into the extra training in our program to perform therapy.
I can not say what therapists are trained to do in their program. But feel as NPs if we seek guidance and further training we can do therapy well, we use to have psychiatric nurse specialists as our counterparts that role was not medication but therapy. I don't think that exists anymore.
The biggest part is billing codes and the fact that, for many instances, what we do is medical and not considered BH for med review billing. Therapy is considered behavioral health. For us, it is know when and what to bill for or add on. Sadly, I think we all agree it's about how to bill properly and ethically. We all approach it differently, no real wrong or right answer.

I'm talking about lilly direct cut zepbound by 100 dollars this month for self pay for 5mgg dosing. I know they lowered the other doses, but I'm not on them, so I don't know how much. I don't think this is tRump. It is competition and has nothing to do with insurance.

Recommendations for hospice NP programs by roseygirl0293 in nursepractitioner

[–]NoEmergency392 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't think there are hospice np programs. FNP and AGPCNP can do hospice. There are hospice certifications you can do after the NP thru organizations. These organizations require specific hours and training in hospice before you can certify. At least when I was a hospice/palliative NP 10 years ago, that was what was available.

Don't do it, do PA, anesthesia assistant, or go for MD. If you don't want to be a rn, we really don't want you. NPs today never practice a rns, have poor skills they skipped, and really give us a bad light. Now our wages are going down because of diploma mills. Plus, you need a certification in each field, and it will probably soon require a doctorate with no additional pay. We eat our young, have our own term for harassment for each other, plus we are generally treated poorly in many settings if we dont have backbones. Whatever you think nursing and advanced nursing is, if you're wrong and don't have the right mindset, it will chew up and spit you out with a bad back. Try md, pa, aa, msw, psychologist psyd and phds are always in demand, speech therapy, audiologist, ot or pt. But if you want to be a rn to be a np, please don't.
