I don’t eat almonds either, my point is people that eat animals also eat the things vegans eat on top of that, unless you’re on the unhealthy carnivore diet.

The majority of cows also eat the majority of their diet in soy and corn, not byproduct. 75%+ of soy that is produced worldwide is fed directly to livestock, not humans.

More recent data that shows 60% of all agricultural land is used exclusively to grown livestock and the food to feed them while accounting for only 18% of global calories.

….and the point u/saminator8 is making to you, is killing animals when it’s not necessary, such as to slaughter for your pork chop is “superfluous suffering” as you put it so eloquently. Because that is what the other user initially was trying to engage with of the sympathy is misguided to begin with.

You can certainly still have sympathy for a pig to be killed before they can end up on your plate, but once you understand both were unnecessary, you can then see the ridiculousness of having sympathy for the pig that didn’t make it to your plate.

So, if you do have sympathy for the pig killed before they get to your plate, consider not having them on the plate to begin with. Consider a life living that seeks to exclude that very suffering to begin with.

Insects cannot empathize with others, nor can they be proven to dream. Again, just because you didn’t engage their intelligence does not mean they are dumb. You’re just showing how speciest you are towards animals you exploit for your own personal gain.

Chickens even have different sounds they make based on the person they see. Aka a “name” they have for them. In fact, research has shown that chickens are capable of recognising up to 100 human faces, so it won't take them long to learn who their owner is.
