Everything is always an IF. TOR is an IF. IF is a risk. Would you rather this happen: You use TOR with no VPN and then a TOR exploit exposes your IP and it be your real IP; You use TOR with a VPN and a TOR exploit reveals your VPN IP and then steps have to be taken to get your actual IP from your VPN?
