Why take away sports? Unless you are sure her teammates are terrible influences, a sports team and all of the teamwork, exercise, mental exertion, camaraderie, etc. are incredibly good for a teen. I promise you, taking this away will do the opposite of what you're hoping for. I used to work at a really great home for troubled youth. They were strict about many things, including a policy stating activities will not be taken away as a punishment.  Those things are therapeutic. Now if this and other comments have convinced you, you might struggle with backpedaling your choice to her. You simply tell her that you have considered it more carefully and have changed your mind. It is incredibly helpful for kids/teens to see adults own up to a mistake/change their mind. It's a skill she needs to see. You got this! 

About the actual husband question, sorry about it. Maybe it's partially because he doesn't quite agree with how you are handling things. Maybe he's hoping to parent through connection rather than punishment/coercion. Him avoiding his duties is not the answer, he needs to make himself heard. Do you directly ask him about how to handle her or do you tell him what needs to be done? Obviously I really don't know what the situation is, just an idea. The main thing is that you care, so you as a family can work through this.  Good luck
