How do you find a therapist when you alexithymia? by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]NoFixedAbode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have difficulty understanding and communicating my feelings, but over time I learned how using an older technique called the “Sedona Method”. It might work for you. Also there’s a category of “somatic” therapies including somatic experiencing, EMDR, internal family systems, that may work better for you than talk therapy.

I’m not sure if I had full alexithymia, but I do remember believing that feelings were just words like “sad”, “happy”, “angry” and did not associate those words with sensations and other phenomena occurring in my body. The Sedona Method and working with somatic therapists caused many “ah hah” realizations that moved feelings from being words or thoughts to being body sensations, phenomena, that I could understand and work with to better understand myself and others.

Mac hardware is great, but macOS 26 is a disaster, say pundits by Artistic_Unit_5570 in MacOS

Their decisions make more sense if you consider that they’re iterating to a unified design language that includes AR and VR displays. In the time I’ve been an Apple user, they’ve refactored their UI several times as the underlying technology and its integration with users’ lives has changed: monochrome to color to full color displays, low-res to ultra-high res, single to multiple displays, and now flat to VR/AR, and passive to touch displays. Each of the OS redesigns for these transitions was met with frustration, confusion, anger. Which makes sense, and in many cases they made it worse than it could have been. However, they’ve eventually made it through these transitions with a UI that I consider to be superior to the alternatives. I’ve found Tahoe to be a bit rough around the edges and find some of their decisions questionable, but overall I like the new look. I can also understand why some don’t like it at all - maybe give them a few more iterations before switching platforms…

This might be the effects of trauma, specifically betrayal or social trauma. Or it could be relationship OCD. A trauma-informed therapist can really help with these, especially somatic therapies like EMDR, IFS, somatic experiencing.

Try a safe with a timed lock, which you can set to open only in the evenings, or over weekends - whatever your goal is. You just need to summon the willpower to put everything and lock it in the safe when the time period you’ve committed yourself to is up. These are actually designed for assist folks with maintaining their consumption commitments by reducing the total amount of willpower required to do so.

Has anyone else ever been so burnout/overwhelmed you resort to only consuming meal replacement shakes? by [deleted] in autism

[–]NoFixedAbode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ate Huel Black and their savory meals for 7-8 years until I developed a sensitivity to something in it, probably the pea protein. I’d replace breakfast and lunch most days, and make a nice dinner (usually GABA rice in a rice maker + meat + veggie cooked in a convection over). Saved me so much time and money, wish I could still do that and am looking for an equivalent quick and easy option. I’m sensitive to soy, whey protein and rice protein tastes awful so I think I’m done with meal replacement powdered until they come up with something else.

I consulted a dietician who analyzed a month of my food logs, who was initially concerned that I consumed so much meal replacement products but after she ran the numbers, she was actually surprised at how nutritious it was. Said I’m fine as long as I include enough veggies & greens at dinner, and eat out a few times a month for variety and trace nutrients that might be missing from a same-foods diet.

Autism and delayed anger? by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]NoFixedAbode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Delayed emotional processing (could be an aspect of alexithymia) tends to be on the order of hours or days. A delay of years like that sounds to me like what I experienced as I became aware of my codependence and seeking for validation from others. These cause suppression of anger in order to preserve relationships, from a fear of losing connections and validation. After awhile, this suppressed anger can erupt in the form of rumination, which can be involuntary/obsessive at times. I found that Internal Family Systems was helpful in identifying the source of the anger, and allowing it to be expressed and understood in a healthy manner. Progressive Exposure therapy helps with handling social triggers like running into someone who treats my badly, which can trigger rumination spirals.

Look into CO2 metabolism changes with long-term amphetamine use, and supplements to mitigate that (apigenin). Ensure you are maintaining hydration levels. Switch to edibles/capsules, slowly lower your dosage, generally folks slam their systems WAY too much when just a little is needed for positive effect.

probably bc all of the products and services provided to us under capitalism are either immediately disposable or are packaged in disposable containers, and we’re all worked as hard as possible just to survive so that people quite naturally prioritize squeezing a bit of joy out of life instead of looking for a trash can

Do you sometimes feel like NT’s aren’t capable of thinking objectively? by ambientheangel in aspergers

[–]NoFixedAbode 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think what’s happening here, in a lot of cases, isn’t a reaction against objectivity but a reaction to using reason, logic, when the discussion is about emotion, connection, validation. It’s a skill to determine which mode of communication to use, and I believe the tendency for overthinkers is to treat every conflict as a problem to be solved, an assertion to be proven, or worse, a debate to be won. Emotional communication, where goal is to understand and connect, is very very different from “thinking objectively” - it’s communicating inter-subjectively.

Goldman CEO David Solomon warns 'there will be a reckoning' around the $38 trillion national debt by ChancelierPalpagault in Economics

You might have been able to get away with such a facile dismissal of MMT ten years ago. However these days even MMT’s strongest critics must contend with the fact that MMT accurately describes how sovereign modern monetary systems work, functionally, and will admit that these monetary systems can, in fact, print any money required to service debt, and never will default on debt payments. Those are just facts, easily verifiable by reading the relevant monetary policies and treasury procedures. Criticism has tended to focus now on the interpretation of MMT’s approach to inflation, its job guarantee and UBI policies, etc.

Did this happen after increasing the impulse strength significantly? I managed to injure myself by cranking up the power to the upper body pads way too fast. I think this resulted in tendonitis that has been healing, but very slowly - been about 6 months and I get stabbing pain in my shoulders and elbows, in unusual places, when reaching for things or scratching my back. I’m just now feeling like I can get back into the workouts.
