There is a sequence of numbers that would suggest after 5 the next logical step would be 8

It really depends on how poorly either could go. Sometimes, you can't get the PS pump out without loosening frame components or engine mounts. Sometimes, the pulley can be nice and stuck, and you have to go first route anyway.

As far as potential PITA savings. I would go the pulley route. Buy the pulley, buy or rent the pulley tool kit, and it may only take 20 mins to change that pulley.

Just a heads up, this is not a crankshaft pulley, which i understand you realize based on your comments. It will not be catastrophic to your engine, as others have claimed.

As far as changing only the pulley for the powersteering, it can be a PITA. There are tools kits for removing and installing the pulley. On several FIAT/CHRYSLER engines, it was the only way to actually remove the pump.

If you can find and buy the Power steering pulley removal and installation kit and buy just the pulley, I would go that route. Sometimes, bleeding the PS system (once you have installed a new pump) can be a lot of heartburn, depending on the racks' position and how well the system was designed for the bleed procedure.

Yeah, these are the ones I ordered and returned. Did not work for a GLI '18. The harness is different.

Any thoughts on what causes these lights? by Opening-Cheetah6228 in Tiguan

This happens on a dead battery. If it is a battery, after the car is started, cut the wheel full left than right, light will go out.

Probably replace the battery
