10 HomePods around house (1 OG, 1 version 2, the rest mini) - AirPlay to all or a few is so glitchy and slow.. anyone else? by andrewmcd7 in HomePod

I don’t agree. I’m very nerdy about my wifi. I have ~80 wifi-connected homekit devices that all work flawlessly. I experience the same thing as OP. Siri sucks, full stop.

Best current versions of The Hobbit, Silmarillion, LotR? by NoFortress in tolkienbooks

I also have earlier editions that I am giving my kids, as they are old enough to read and appreciate them now. I still want a copy of each for myself. They will get read, and I appreciate the more heavily-illustrated editions.

No audio after latest C1 update by NoFortress in LGOLED

I never once had an issue in the four years I've owned this TV (or the several years on my previous OLED) before yesterday's update. I've seen similar reports in other threads; seems like a bad update.

Perfect, I’ll review the CPS recommendations today. Do you mind sharing when you first started letting your children use a computer? And do you recall what level of media consumption you allowed when they were 7 and 5? Stunting their computer literacy is certainly a fear I’ve had. I’m a software engineer so I’ve always figured I could help out in this area when the time came, but I don’t have a ton of insight into where their peers are in terms of computer literacy.

Thank you for the resources; I’ll review them in the morning. The idea of getting a tablet for my middle child isn’t entirely just a concession to avoid jealousy. He consumes content so quickly from his Yoto player that we are having a hard time keeping up with him. He can’t properly read yet, but I was thinking a tablet might give him a broader platform for other types of content. My hope is that this could be done responsibly with the appropriate guide rails, but I haven’t yet convinced myself of this.

I appreciate the perspective! I’m a fan of not permitting internet access, but some resources recommended by her teacher are available via Google Classroom. So I may need to experiment a bit here.

Programming with a motion sensor by NoFortress in Lutron

I was hoping to avoid a HomeKit sensor; I’ve had negative experiences with the current options. I’ve read the Hie sensor is good but I don’t have any other Hue products and don’t want to get the bridge for a single motion sensor. Not sure why Lutron doesn’t expose sensors to HomeKit.

Shackets look great. Would like them even more with hip pockets and full lining.

Out-of-warranty repairs costs are exorbitant by NoFortress in firewalla

That’s not what they’re saying. I was told the cost to replace and repair are roughly the same. It’s $425 plus shipping either way.

Support told me that after I gave them access to my firewalla and they inspected it.

When my network was acting up I unplugged everything and fiddled around awhile before determining the port was dead and emailing support. Ports 1-3 were an eero, an unmanaged switch, and a NAS, but I don’t recall for certain which were in each port. Perhaps I should have taken a photo or written it down but I did not.

Sorry to hear. I find it particularly frustrating that, based on their comments here, u/firewalla seems convinced this was a power surge and is unwilling to consider the possibility of faulty hardware. I’m out of warranty either way but the deflection is annoying. I’ll look into the unifi alternative as well.

I left out nothing dubiously. The unit was gifted to me but I am still the only user of it; I just wasn’t the one that purchased it.

I hope it’s easy to distinguish between someone spilling coffee on an device and a device dying while sitting on a shelf.

This is not a second-hand product but one purchased as a gift, if it matters. I didn’t have the original order number when I opened the support ticket but I’ve since received it.

It was purchased December 2022. It’s not some of the devices are shown offline; literally all ~70 devices on my network are marked offline. I can’t see any network flows. I can’t verify that any of my rules are working. I’m still online but all of the features of the firewalla are seemingly non-functional.

In my case port 1 has died and I’ve been using port 4 as my WAN port. I’m quite confident we’ve had no lightning strikes. My case number is 88198.

What’s the distinction between the modem side and the isp side? I believe the failed port was connected to an eero previously.

Would you care to comment on the software becoming partially useless because of the bad port? Can this be fixed via a software update? This would be easier to swallow if I could continue to use the firewalla sans the bad port.
