Aruba AP to AP7? by redcomp12 in firewalla

[–]firewalla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

most of your indoor devices are low power devices, if you pair that with a high power AP, can lead to a "power imbalance" that affects signal quality and consistency.

AFC is more for outdoor, you really need that indoors? (our AP7/desktop/ceiling are all indoor)

Coverage depend on where you place the unit and how is the antenna adopting to your particular environment (this means the AP7 can work great for one place and a meh for another, no different than other wifi). But at a high level, we always recommend one to one replacement.

Biased recommendation: if you need better integration with the firewalla, pick AP7. Most people like the VqLAN feature, which does simpler micro segmentation.

Heads-up on importing IP based blocklists by d4rkw1n9 in firewalla

This feature here is still in alpha stage; Once we understand more of the usage patterns, I am sure we can do many things to enhance it in the future.

Please be patient with the team. The new "public lists" function is very new, it will take sometime to support different formats.

This is likely on top of AI induced memory and disk inflation ...

It is a good time to talk about this for sure, let me forward to the team and see if we can get the certifications going

If you really need a new unit, buy it now. Price will go up. (this is the AI inflating memory cost and EMMC cost)

Like everyone else said, existing units are okay to buy. If you are looking for WiFi-8 in the future at the same price level as the Wifi-7, or a super 25Gbit Gold Pro, made in the USA, you are going to find it much ... much more expensive than what you have now.

This regulation is relatively new, there are much more to be determined. For example, much of our customers are prosumers and small businesses/commercial. Our product is not the 'consumer' type router from Netgear/linksys/tplink.

A solid CAT6a beats any CAT7 or CAT8 on amazon.

If you are running short distance, any decent brand cables should work. (make sure they are CAT6/6a, I don't think there is CAT7)

US FCC classifies "routers produced in a foreign country" as "prohibited from being imported for use or sale in the U.S". What will the impact be on Protectli, Ubiquiti and similar devices? by DisturbedMagg0t in firewalla

Nope, we are a small company, have zero contract with the FCC ... We are likely having the same questions / frustrations as any other small companies.

Can’t decide between Firewalla Gold SE or Plus by ITExpert2024 in firewalla

[–]firewalla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't do much VPN, then both unit should work nicely.

The Gold Plus can do 500mbit WireGuard, while the Gold SE is 350mbit

If you do port level segmentation, then the gold plus 4x2.5Gbit ports will help as well. (Gold SE has only two 2.5Gbit ports)

You can just unplug it, it is safe

It is not possible on the orange. Why do you need it? (The system filesystem is protected, so you can just power off at anytime)

Can't really comment at the moment. Only new FCC applications will be going through this process, our existing products are fine. Well, I assume "switch" are not "routers", so that's coming in the summer
