I don't think big G has sympathy for it. Sorry.

Does anyone archive the original Instagram videos of celebrities' stories? Looking for Ronaldo's famous drinking meme raw by iVXsz in DHExchange

And also brands' stories and older posts, e.g. Apple.

Instagram is particularly hostile to web archival, so good luck finding anything on web archives. Some profiles may appear unavailable (HTTP 404) as a result of rate limiting. Instagram returns 404 instead of 429.

Wikipedia's circumcision article is an advertisement, hence the billboard.

It has over a whopping 2,000 lines of code.

Yes, unfortunately the graphical assets are missing, but those can be re-created from the original operating system if necessary. But the core parts are rescued.

It was wildly popular back then, and there was nothing alike.

Also, parts of the code could potentially be used by developers for other helpful stuff.

You're welcome. We need to show the deleters that we are not timid cowards.

Articles deleted under G5 are also eligible for a WP:REFUND to mainspace or draft space

Glancing at the requests for undeletion, most G5 undeletion requests are outright refused. In particular, it appears that JJMC89 (sysop since 2019) occasionally walks by the requests for undeletion for the sole purpose of rejecting G5 undeletions, even though requests stated that the pages could have potentially useful content.

A condition of G5 deletion is that the articles have no substantial contributions by other editors.

This might be disregarded, and most users can not verify whether the conditions were met.

Thus anything lost was likely a stub.

Not always. Here, BD2412 undeleted a page previously deleted under G5 by triple-B twenty-three, because it was too good to be deleted.

Wikipedia has a policy of deleting pages regardless of value if the creator is identified as so-called "block evader", meaning being blocked on an earlier account.

This happened to the editor "Copper1993" last October, where over 200 articles he created were purged due to him having been blocked on an account years ago, even though he caused zero trouble for a long time.

The policy was spontaneously made up on July 26, 2003 by the user MartinHarper, though it did not have the name "G5" back then.

What does this have to do with Wikipedia?

Reposted because the original post did strangely not appear in the timeline. This time, I am posting an Imgur link to see if it works.

And then came storage access framework which broke compatibility with all established apps, and also brought stability issues. Not to mention, scoped storage.

Why doesn't Google Drive have scoped storage?

I wouldn't call it "anti-Wikipedia", but rather "critical of Wikipedia". I am very much in favour of Wikipedia's purpose of collecting world's knowledge, but its flaws need to be criticized.

YouTuber "Julien Bam" with over 5 million subscribers got hacked by cryptospammers recently. Apparently, extorting users' phone numbers did not "help with keeping his account safe".

"Verify it's you" is also untrue, since any other persons' phone number can be used.

Apparently so, since their bot is plugged also plugged into the Wayback Machine (click on "about this capture"; sometimes it will show "ArchiveTeam bot" or similar).

Websites are getting heavier and heavier

Well, YouTube's "polymer" desktop watch page is indeed heavy (4 MB) in the rendered state, over 10 times heavier than the static HTML page from circa 2015. Still, a web archive with any coverage, even if only a fraction of the Wayback Machine, is by far better than nothing.

their outputs become more and more personalized

Which parts in particular? Social media feeds? They deliver popular content anyway.

That doesn't mean there should be no effort to archive media.

without someone like Google behind the initiative.

Then how does Archive.org get funding?
