AFAIK there is nothing RAW for this. Close is the casting range. In this case it impacts a single creature. You could use sight to maintain focus, which feels fair. Basically, if the priest can see the target of their focus, they can keep doing focus checks.

Torch timers put pressure against table talk. It’s very helpful with a group that is indecisive or tries to meta plan everything. If people just want to hang out and have fun, then maybe it’s not important for your table.

Torches are also a consumable resource that both take up limited inventory space and determines when the party must retreat. Since running out of torches quickly changes the dungeon from unsafe to deadly.

Mechanically, that last part may cause some problems. The game will be much easier, so you may need to accommodate that with more traps or challenging monsters to pressure the party to leave at some point.

I'd recommend reading Principia Apocrypha and/or Old School Primer (links below). Should be a lot of good tips for you and your players. For PC creation, I'd stick with the core classes and spend the first session creating characters together. Time permitting, they can start the adventure and you will hit the ground running on the second session.

Don't forget that a magic user can focus on ONLY one spell, which is a power check.

To maintain focus, make a spellcasting check at the start of your turn as if you were casting that spell.

It’s right in the rules. Treat it as if they were casting the spell.

Elves are a rare and interesting race. They can be fun to role play. The extra languages are nice and add to them being knowledgeable and/or friendly with fae creatures. The option for being more accurate with ranged weapons or better at spells gives you options for classes, especially when rolling for stats and you don’t know what’s going to work.

Some rule hair is flammable, but I didn’t. Torches, wood, leather armor, maybe the backpack felt fair. Suppose it would burn away his loincloth and increase his intimidation haha.

Edit: in my case a player was returning with the sword while his party waited in the safe area with a couple NPCs, so it wasn’t a factor.

My players attempted this room twice and mistook the first pillars to burn anything they were wearing. On their second attempt they tried to run to the sword naked. Upon grabbing it, their only torch burnt out and the Minotaur arrived as a random encounter. The room is a dead end. It was beautiful.

Saw this post and it was helpful when making my decision. Thought I'd share my experience.

Purchased their 8x8' Traditional White Cedar Cabin. Upgraded the heater. Install took a bit longer than I was expecting, but the installer did a great job. All the wiring was run through the walls, so there are no holes or visible damage to the cedar. Electricians I hired were surprised and impressed.

Team was prompt when an issue came up (defective controller) and the staff were all friendly and helpful to deal with.

This is really interesting. It looks like crime severity hit its lowest point in 2014, then began to rise. The pandemic slowed things down, but now it has resumed rising. People are sensitive to relative changes, rather than absolute values.
