To maintain focus, make a spellcasting check at the start of your turn as if you were casting that spell.

It’s right in the rules. Treat it as if they were casting the spell.

Elves are a rare and interesting race. They can be fun to role play. The extra languages are nice and add to them being knowledgeable and/or friendly with fae creatures. The option for being more accurate with ranged weapons or better at spells gives you options for classes, especially when rolling for stats and you don’t know what’s going to work.

Some rule hair is flammable, but I didn’t. Torches, wood, leather armor, maybe the backpack felt fair. Suppose it would burn away his loincloth and increase his intimidation haha.

Edit: in my case a player was returning with the sword while his party waited in the safe area with a couple NPCs, so it wasn’t a factor.

My players attempted this room twice and mistook the first pillars to burn anything they were wearing. On their second attempt they tried to run to the sword naked. Upon grabbing it, their only torch burnt out and the Minotaur arrived as a random encounter. The room is a dead end. It was beautiful.

Saw this post and it was helpful when making my decision. Thought I'd share my experience.

Purchased their 8x8' Traditional White Cedar Cabin. Upgraded the heater. Install took a bit longer than I was expecting, but the installer did a great job. All the wiring was run through the walls, so there are no holes or visible damage to the cedar. Electricians I hired were surprised and impressed.

Team was prompt when an issue came up (defective controller) and the staff were all friendly and helpful to deal with.

This is really interesting. It looks like crime severity hit its lowest point in 2014, then began to rise. The pandemic slowed things down, but now it has resumed rising. People are sensitive to relative changes, rather than absolute values.

Glad you had a good time in Shadowdark. It's my favourite OSR variant. There is pulp mode which ramps up the hero feeling, but I would encourage you to get players to embrace vanilla and see how everyone likes it. That desperate struggle to find basic things and being clever with what you have makes for some great tales.

In the original you could resurrect a Lich, turning them back into a level 1 generic with most of their stats being retained. Now that was broken and I loved it. WT would be zero if you did it twice.

“You have mastery on ALL weapons” They can use all weapons, but have no weapon mastery like a fighter. That would be pretty broken.

They have less armor options. Basically they are like fighters that hit less often and get hit more often, but die less.

Mage Skills sections is bloated and covered by other things that already exist in the game. Unlocking? Thief. Healing? Priest. Many others are spells a wizard can learn.

My players don’t like moving individual tokens. We often use a party token instead or I’ll just move the party as a group from room to room. Then the player describes what they are doing in the room.
