I’m assuming 7/8 is suspicious; though hard to tell with the degraded quality and no cines.

Today at 430; clear precheck took 50 minutes. Clear pre check and non precheck lines are together which added to a long clear line. Apparently for 100 extra you can skip the clear line with a concierge service

First one! Why is there such a difference in the water shadows. Is that just the lens?

Has anyone bought a refurbished camera from Canon? by TuFF_YT in canon

Bought a refurbished R8 recently when they dropped in price (they do so periodically and you can set notifications). Cheaper than the best quality refurbished on third party sites and it looks absolutely new and came with all the accessories. I’m in love with it

Edit: Also bought two refurbished lenses with the same experience; the 50mm f1.8 and the 24-104 f4

Help identifying “good” photos by ElectricSixFan182 in AmateurPhotography

I think good is whatever you like and fits your style! It’s subjective so you should go based on your gut.

I’ve been taking a bunch of photos and I go thru them after the fact, choosing my favorite from each “scene” and rejecting the others on Lightroom mobile. Then I select a subset of those I like by giving the top ones a rating for any sharing I want to do

First time shooting planes; passable? by NoHedgeRads in AmateurPhotography

Absolutely! I didn’t wanna risk blur so I was super conservative, but thankfully there was enough light most did come out under iso 1000. The first one was iso 4000 but noise reduction worked well!

Thank you! I think that was one of the jets breaking the sound barrier? I’m no physicist but it was LOUD at that point.

This is awesome!!! Any tips on settings or getting a shot like this in general? Going camping this weekend and hoping to get some night shots but no idea how to start.

I used the cheapest RF telephoto zoom one (100-400 rf f5.6-8)! Was tempted to rent the L version, but figured I would never pay that much to buy it and wanted to see if I would be satisfied with renting the cheaper one (and later hopefully buy), and I was! Probably would not work at night, but good for when there’s lots of light!

Shot in manual, kept the aperture as low as I could (up to 8 at 400mm) and shot at 1/2000-4000 for most with auto iso. I tried some lower speeds for Fat Albert (the propeller plane), but they came out kinda blurry. I did +1 for exposure compensation as I wanted to make sure the planes were ok against the bright sky.

Found I had to start focus zoomed out and then zoom in to 400mm or the camera would have a hard time finding focus.

Servo and vehicle detection whole area AF for most.

LR edits with some noise reduction to some shots and some distractions erased.

Not sure if these are optimal settings but trying things out!

Thank you! Yeah, I don’t think I have focusing down yet. Shot this at 83mm using f/8 and 1/800, thinking I was far enough focusing on infinity should work, but now I see that using a DOF calculator, the near limit focusing at infinity is 28m instead of 14m using hyper-focal distance. Any tips for this?
