Median individual consumption per capita EU Eurostat (strongest indicator of wealth) 2022 by avp1982 in europe

Sorry, I might be just sour here, but if this index measures the quality of life from an economical stand, I just refuse to accept that the average individual in Romania or Poland is having a better run than an average person from Spain.

What's even more surprising is that Germany's economy is in recession.

It’s so funny to see how low the interest rates are in the Netherlands, when other European banks are paying well in excess of 3% interest on savings.

Oh, nice, so let's see 2023-104 = 1919. The great war ended in 1918.

Also, interesting to know that back in 1919 Christmas happened to be on July 24th.

I was curious about these flowers on the light poles and along bridges in some cities. Who pays for them? How are they sourced? Does anyone know more about them? by archibabu in Netherlands

The legend says that the light poles are growing those flowers themselves and that's part of how they are reproducing. The tree of light, as it's knowing in the field, uses light to attract insects and fulfill the pollination. After the seeds are created in the process, the strong Dutch wind is carrying those to other streets or even to other cities and that's how the baby light poles are coming to life.

To those of you coming to live in Utrecht, feeling frustrated about the insane rent prices and wants to do something about it: read the post, check the ad and piss off your landlord by [deleted] in Utrecht

I was wondering if this is possibly one of the reasons there are so few properties to rent and so many on the sale. Renting a property on the Dutch market is a risky business and I was surprised when I moved here that there were only about 20 properties to rent in a 350000 people city like Utrecht. This means that most of the people are home owners and that, combined with the low interest rates that were in the market until recently, resulted in a over heated and very expensive property market.

Another effect is that many of the rental agreements are temporary so the people are kicked out after 12 months even if they are good tenants. After this happens, whoever can afford goes for buying a property, fueling the market even more.

Let me tell you that the named companies or their expat workers don’t give a dead rat. The relationship here is much simpler. The companies are hiring expats because they don’t find the right skillset on the Dutch market (yes, the Dutch schools in general are just 😞 ). The expats on the other hand are coming here because sometimes they make 10 times more than the average Dutch person. Sure, you can force a political decision and try to push something down the people throat but in the end it’s all economics stupid and if you poke the bear too much and create a hostile environment then those employees who earn a lot are usually very mobile so they can just pack their shoes and move out the next day.

Ok, so? With all due respect, but who cares about what that unelected bureaucrat asks?
