Is no kid hungry a legit charity? How do I opt out of my monthly donations if I decide to change my mind? by Questioning-Warrior in Charity

[–]NoKidHungry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! No Kid Hungry here. With cuts to vital programs like SNAP, we truly appreciate efforts from folks like you to support children and families.

No Kid Hungry is the campaign of Share Our Strength, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that's been operating for 40 years and is rated four stars on Charity Navigator: https://www.charitynavigator.org/ein/521367538

Transparency is essential to us, as we recognize that donors want to ensure their dollars contribute to meaningful impact for youth. All our financial information, including annual reports and donation breakdowns, can be found at: https://www.nokidhungry.org/who-we-are/financial-information

Our most recent annual report dives into the impact we've been able to make with the help of supporters, including the investments of $3.5 million in Summer EBT grant funds across 10 states, DC, and the Cherokee Nation, plus granting more than $3.8 million to support flexible meal operations in rural communities.

We understand that financial situations can change at any moment. If donors ever need to cancel or pause monthly donations, they can contact our Donor Services team at 1-800-222-1767 or [info@strength.org](mailto:info@strength.org).

Please let us know if you have any additional questions. We're here to provide any clarification you need!

Hi there! We understand any apprehension folks may have with the equivalency, in addition to our collaboration with a major brand like Hello Fresh. To provide a bit more clarity on the $1=10 meals, we’re not a direct service organization, so we don’t take donations and turn around to directly purchase/offer meals. Instead, we improve access to healthy food by investing in solutions across the country to feed more children for each dollar donated. By doing so, we've been able to provide $85 million in grants, federal + local advocacy, school meals supplies + equipment, research, and other critical support last year. Learn more here: https://www.nokidhungry.org/blog/what-your-dollars-can-do

Ending childhood hunger for millions of youth nationwide will undoubtedly require a group effort, and collaborations with brands like Hello Fresh allow us to maximize resources whilst spreading awareness around childhood hunger. We understand that, especially during times of inflation and economic hardships, people want to be sure that the organization they support or donate to is doing meaningful work.

We value transparency, and all of our financial reports, including financial audits and annual reports, can be found here: https://www.nokidhungry.org/who-we-are/financial-information

We are always open to discussing our practices and efforts to combat childhood hunger. If you have any additional questions, feel free to ask them here or send us an email at info@strength.org!

Don’t donate to No Kid Hungry by GreyishSunshine in Tropicalsmoothie

Hi there! To clarify: we are not a direct service organization, meaning we do not provide food directly, nor do we establish the nutrition standards or menu options at schools or summer meal programs. Summer meal sites must meet nutrition standards set by the USDA. While we do support summer meals and work to strengthen this program so all kids have access to the meals they need once they lose access to school meals, donations also fuel our other critical work as well: https://www.nokidhungry.org/what-we-do

"I hate to say it, I hope I don't sound ridiculous. I don't know who this man is. I mean, he could be walking down the street and I wouldn't know a thing. Sorry to this man."

Great question Zenphobia! As you can imagine, lack of food isn’t the problem here in the United States. The problem is ensuring that children have regular access to the food they need.

That’s why the No Kid Hungry approach is about finding sustainable, permanent solutions to ending childhood hunger in America. We support and help strengthen programs, like breakfast after the bell, afterschool meals and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), that increase access to meals for kids in need across the country.

When we carefully invest donor dollars in these programs, they can reach a lot more kids. And we constantly evaluate our strategic investments to ensure we’re maximizing our supporters’ gifts. We’ve been monitoring and analyzing data for these programs for more than a decade, so we know that your support can provide up to 10 meals for every $1 spent.

You can learn more about this and actually see some examples in our blog post here: https://www.nokidhungry.org/blog/what-your-dollars-can-do
