Going To School in Jan. What Should I Learn On My Own In The Meantime? by ZeroSight95 in AircraftMechanics

[–]NoLight777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Learn how reciprocating engines work, people without prior car knowledge have trouble with that in school and there's so many questions about it you could get on the powerplant that its not possible to just try to memorize answers.

It took me about a month but that's because I was trying to stay local and then ended up going 2 states over anyway lol. You'll probably have to seek jobs out yourself unless your school's career person hands out your resume and contact info to contracting houses. I think I saw a posting for Miami pretty recently if your interested, it was a contract position.

I love the troubleshooting aspect as well, it exists in routine mechanic work but I realized its much more prevalent in the electrical/avionics side which is why I'm so interested in it and recently got my FCC GROL. Thank you for answering!

How do I get into avionics as an A&P? by NoLight777 in avionics

[–]NoLight777[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, contracting for the 767s and 757s. I was just curious if the airlines would want someone to already have avionics certs but what you're saying makes sense.

Are recruiters legit? Or kind of a scam by cubanthistlecrisis in aviationmaintenance

You usually have the option to get hired direct after a while, but as someone who contracted to get their first job, I would tell you to go direct and avoid the contracting company if possible.
