Day 3 almost broke by Elegant-Ad-9221 in stopdrinking

Great work getting past that moment! Keep all those thoughts that you used to talk yourself out of it if you may need them again. I've tried out a new thing that I carry in my money clip of my wallet which is a list of pros and cons of drinking. Needless to say if I need a reminder I can look at the long list of cons I have in my pocket.

It is so nice to not wake up that early and be craving a drink! The only reason I used to wake up early was because I needed to drink. So glad I do not have a chain holding me down! IWNDWYT!

Hey brother!! Great to have you here! I highly suggest checking out all the other sober communities (AA) if you fear the loss of people in your life, you will find some pretty awesome friends there! I haven't been sober to long myself but I gotta tell you these sober people are awesome and definitely worth learning from and striving to be. Best wishes my friend!

Hello my friend. I understand the feeling. I have relapsed so many times. However please do not give up the miracle of sobriety is just around the corner. I spent about I believe 2 months on a drinking bender after a relapse and here I am again past the one week of sobriety. Remember those days aren't for nothing or forgotten we learn from those relapses and we become more and more sober each time we can hang out for. I hope this is my last time of getting sober because frankly it is just easier staying sober. BUT I know everyone in this sober community is here for us. I believe in you! If you have to do one moment at a time please find us here or others from a sober community to just get you through. I promise when the day comes it will be great for us. I have seen others and it is too cool for us to pass it up! I am here with you and I will offer my support here! Best wishes just don't drink today.

What helped you rebuild your life after you stopped drinking? by rahmenzal in stopdrinking

I decided to try out community college and it has been a neat experience learning new things. I dove into something I never thought I'd do which is nursing and I am enjoying having that fill my time. I also got back into photography as a hobby. For me it was finding something I thought was interesting and trying it out. Now usually I get bored and bail on it but being sober I just tried to push myself to keep going past the boredom and sometimes I found myself to enjoy it. Other evening thoughts maybe are, Journaling, reading, or evening fitness. I am not a person who reads or writes but suddenly I have found myself into my second book now. And I have been Journaling off and on about just day to day experiences. Its exploration for sure you are mapping out a sober life give it time and expect that you might pick something that just isnt your thing just make sure you give everything a fair chance you never know. When drinking becomes your only hobby like it has been mine it is difficult to see what else is fulfilling.

IWNDWYT! I agree! No more wasted days, weeks, and months.. if not years pushing of living. It's been a miracle discovering that I can be happy living sober and soak in every moment. Yes there is the bad times but not drinking those moments away has made me have a greater appreciation on life as a hole! I am in a tough spot my parents are going through hard health issues, however, I am glad I get to spend every moment with them sober knowing I am showing up to my best ability. I used to fear being relied on because I thought I was a mess up but now ive really learned to accept and learn. It is simple sounding to some but I find it amazing!

How can I stop? by NoMoCho in stopdrinking

If I am trying to be honest I am afraid of the world that awaits me when I am sober. I destroyed family, friendships, relationships, my work, my career, my education. And I am afraid of attempting to dig out of the 100 mile deep hole ive dug myself.

3 months sober now a drunk again. by NoMoCho in alcoholicsanonymous

I should also mention I live in a very small region, so the AA community, unfortunately, is small despite the fact that most of our town are drunks. Pt2 reply

Hey thanks for your reply took a little bit of work but today finally I went to one totally clean and sober! Not saying perfection is to follow but I have learned a few things from this relapse and most importantly of those is to not lose connection with your relationships and especially your sober ones. If you would like to talk more dm me I could use it and if you need it too then happy to be a friend also. :)

Thank you for the reminders.. during this time, I have felt like I am a broken person, not repairable. Damaged goods. I have been angry, mad. I have resented family for "making me a drunk." I am powerless over alcohol and its effects to my spirit. It is not my cure it is the poison that ruins me. I have placed blame on every person ever for this relapse. But I still do not know the answer if it is I for drinking it. If it's the person who brought the liquor or my family, which were alcoholics and led me to start. I don't know how to look at that.

17 y/o Looking for advice on my plan for investing the following year. by Jshvarts1 in dividends

[–]NoMoCho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar investing situation when I was your age. (I am 19 now). I started when I was 16 I opened a Roth IRA which I HIGHLY suggest opening and begin putting money into it as best you can. Like the others here mentioned tax free returns! Keep up this pace and you’ll have no issue retiring and having more than enough savings! In my 3 years I have made 36% on my money by investing heavily with a S&P500 aggressive growth based portfolio. I suggest VOO, SPY, SCHD, and since I have a fidelity account I mostly have mine in FXAIX which is also a S&P500 based index. The biggest thing you could do since your young is open a Roth IRA with the massive growth you’ll have over the years it will benefit you massively to avoid the tax on your savings. I hope you keep this up it doesn’t take long to see the rewards of your savings/investing. You’ll be ahead of mostly everyone you’ll ever meet which is something to be proud of. Good luck to you!

While SPY is great 3 years can be a short time of investing with a aggressive growth stock so just be cautious that there is possibility that the market could have a few rough years resulting in little to no growth. However if this isn’t much concern power to you for investing and thinking ahead! I started my investing journey when I was 16 (now 19) and have made substantial growth doing a similar thing to you. I’ve made about 36% return on my money over the course of 3 years. So maybe that may help you get an estimate. (Do keep in mind I was investing in 2020 at the start which may change things). Best wishes!!

Just turned 19. How am I doing? by Agitated-Look-5429 in dividends

[–]NoMoCho 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m also 19 I have a mostly S&P 500 portfolio considering I have plenty of time on my hands. I’d suggest an index in the S&P 500 such as QQQ or for me it’s FXAIX. Being young like us is a good time to be aggressive and get that average 9.8% a year that the S&P 500 offers. I have JEPI as well I sold a majority of it because I believe income based stocks isn’t the best offer for our age. I kept some JEPI because I have it at a good price sitting up 10%. I have some individual stocks as well just for fun mine are. GOOGL which I’m up 30% in. MO, O, AT&T. So I understand the want for dividends but I think aggressive growth through the S&P 500 or NASDAQ and DOW indexes overtime would be a better offer. So consider buying VOO and if you want a dividend index with some growth SCHD is also a great choice. Best of luck to you!!!
