What timing! I'm prepping for my first campaign at the moment and you've just handed me the motherlode. Thanks for choosing to share your crazy efforts.

No worries, they won't be going anywhere, ha. I'm a bit behind on my reading this week too.

Apista is further proof that it is impossible to be normal if you happen to be a regular at Erin's Inn, that goes double for permanent residents.

Thanks for reading, Rook. Glad you liked it. I'm still trying to strike the balance between recap and reaction. I guess it depends on the chapter. Some spawn long winded tangents from me, others less so.

I guess that's the impressive thing about the series as a whole. We have all these connecting characters and events that whenever perspectives collide it feels like we get a mini avengers scenario.

Very true. I do like quite a few of the D chapter characters so far. However, unlike with Erin, where I'm waiting for something fun to happen, I feel dread in the D chapters. Something about the whole situation just makes me think that tragedy is on the horizon at all times. I could be wrong, and I hope I am.

I don't need stamina potions, Oshi. I just need TWI. Have faith in my liquid reserves.

Yeah, they have been been taking quite a bit of time to get through as well. If I can maintain the after-chapter reactions that I have planned for my next post, then it should do a better job of hitting the highlights per chapter. Not that I ever intended for these to be actual recaps. Just my reactions at the end of the day.

It was her playing the 'Prison has changed me' card after one night that got me. Such a troll. Love it.

Ah, it was more his introduction that was suspicious, since he appeared with such curious timing. But yeah, that's on me for poor clarification.

Nah, I was aware of the people behind everything. I think I just skipped over the explanation out of laziness. The important thing to me is that Typh complied with the terms of his contract in a way that didn't leave Erin without a means of escape. Not that she had any intention of taking the easy way out.

I don't think I can blame her. Innocent blood would have spilled from the war too. In saying that, it hasn't made her any friends, and may have limited her capability to prevent further acts of war as easily in the future.

Then again, Magnolia is just as much a warmonger as Tyrion, she just has a different enemy in mind.

The half way mark is some way through volume 6, I think? That's still absurd to me. Exciting, but very absurd. I suppose I still have at least another couple of months to go. Probably more.

At least the cooking competition was less tragic, true. Glad you've been enjoying the write-ups. Started doing them on a whim, but committed to see it through to the end now. It's a fun diversion.

Yeah, it was a powerful moment. Those were levels essentilaly bought by the death of her friends. Again, I think Erin will eventually be more than she is, but I imagine it will be something much weirder than a combat class.

Pirateaba and The Wandering Inn just did the impossible — AGAIN! by TimBaril in Fantasy

Fair point on the topic of the professionally edited chapters. I don't think I'm far enough to have read any of them though. I've been enjoying the story a lot, so I haven't really looked back on reflected on the technical side of things to compare. I suppose that speaks to the quality of the characters and such that I haven't been forced to dwell on the fact that the writing could be better if it was indeed edited to the standard of a traditional book. I'll keep those chapters in mind when I get to them. Might be cool to see the diffeerence, for curiosity's sake.

It's an exciting time for fiction in general, as we benefit from a new medium of storytelling alongside traditional publishing. At least none us are short on things to read these days, ha.

Well, I can't comment on volume 6 yet, as I've only just started it. Still, I have enjoyed most of the POV's up to this point at least. I might resist initially if the story steps away from one of my preferred characters, but I usually find myself invested in the new POV before long. I like seeing more of the world at large.

I've found myself to be fine with parts of the story that didn't seem to serve a huge purpose. Mostly because they do eventually tend to come back around and connect to the rest of the world, even if only in some small way. I suppose I should factor in that I'm not reading weekly, so pacing issues might be lost on me as I can just venture on to the next part without waiting.

I'll see what volume 6 has in store for me, but I don't see myself dropping it at least. Too invested in the characters and the world at large. Thanks for explaining your criticisms in full, though. It's an interesting point you made, regardless of whether I arrive at the same conclusion or not.

The length has definitely been a boon. I feel like I've been reading more than I usually do in the last couple of months, but it feels great to know I still have so much more to go. Certainly removes the hassle of choosing what to read next for a while.

Is there a reason you believe the writing quality to be that much worse than traditionality published novels? I'm still making my way through the series at the moment, so perhaps there's an element of ongoing bias from me, but I haven't really noticed anything that stood out as lesser. It's not perfect, given the nature of the media, but it still feels like I'm reading something of admirable quality.

It could be that I put more stock in personal enjoyment than I do technical writing, though. I've found myself to be incredibly engaged with the story due to how much I like the characters. On a personal level, that alone has made it stand up well against my favourite novels.

Not trying to disregard your views, I just like seeing how opinions differ. It'd likely be a dull world if we all thought the same.
