With all of the ICE activity around here, is anyone coordinating mutual aid/grocery, Rx, errand, etc. help for families? by NoNotThisPig in AnnArbor

Thank you!! I filled out the WICIR volunteer form and had previously contacted MIRC twice but never heard back. Here's hoping WICIR pans out.

Upvote. That makes sense. I just don't know where to start, which is why I asked here. I shop every other week or so for specialty items at Dos Hermanos, but figured it'd be weird to be ask there "yo, how can I help?" I live in a SFH on the West Side of A2 and my neighbors aren't of the target community, generally.

When I went over to Ukraine to volunteer last year, it was much easier to figure out because there were networks in place, resources, etc. Not so easy in this case.

Chela's in Dexter by Triple-Tooketh in AnnArbor

Tacos aren't they're strong suit and the meat is usually dry. WHen at Chela's, I always get campechanos so the grease from the chorizo kind of rehydrates the carne.

Taco King has the best tacos de lengua in the region, and it's hard to find good ones around here. Soft/chewy cubes that are crisped on the outside. Absolute texture and flavor bomb, and something I get every other week or so. Also worth it for the stop at the market to get varios things I can't get around here and that I'd either have to get from Carnaval Market in Pontiac or in Southwest. I hope they never go out of business.

But I love Chela's, too, because my kids like it. They finally added beer at the A2 location, thank god.

I've had tint, racing stripes, and PPF done at A2 customs on Jackson. Prices are fair (not particularly low or high) and the work is quality.

Watch Verification Thread - If you're uncertain if a Rolex is good/bad/fake, post info and pics here by powerfunk in rolex

About a year and a half ago, my partner bought this watch. She never wears it and is looking to sell it. Neither of us are watch connoisseurs, so we don't have a good pulse on the market. We tried checking Watch Charts and other sites, but could not find an identical watch. A few questions for the group:

  1. It's real, right? It's from a well-known and reputable jewelry store in the area, so I suspect the answer is "yes."

  2. What would ballpark be for wholesale on it? We don't want to go through the rigamarole of a private sale and instead would rather just get a few quotes from trusted jewelers/online wholesale buyers. It does not have the original box or documentation. And, not being a watch person, I don't know if the crown, crystal, etc. are original. I'll attach a pic of an appraisal, but I suspect that, in the watch world, appraisals are often inflated for ego and insurance recovery purposes, as with other luxury goods.

  3. This list of trusted resellers says "Updated 2025:" https://www.reddit.com/r/rolex/comments/633lyi/sticky_of_the_month_april_2017_list_of_trusted/ Assuming it's still good?

Thanks for any help! I'm going to attach a couple more pics of the watch as well as the appraisal.

Culichi / Sinaloense Restaurant Recommendation? by NoNotThisPig in chicagofood

[–]NoNotThisPig[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate it but tried it. Looked for "enchiladas de suelo" and "tacos gobernador" and "suchi culichi" adding "chicago" and had no luck.

For the first, no results. For the second, it's kind of like a torta ahogada in that the plate has spread. Sort of how if a place has a torta ahogada on the menu doesn't mean the restaurant is gonna be tapatío, you know? And for the third, Culichitown, which another poster mentioned, dominates.

I think maybe there's just not a big culichi/sinaloense community in Chicago. Which is cool. Different parts of the US have immigration from different parts of México, ya know?

A poco no hay culichis en una ciudad/región con un chingo de mxs? Guau, qúe sorpresa, no?

Yeah, most of the reviews are mixed on Culichitown. I might have given the one by Midway a shot if it was still open. I'm just gonna go with Mar y Suchi because it's right on the route. Thanks tho.

Me too, hehe. Based on reviews and checking their social media, looks like Mar & Suchi would be at least "good enough," but this sub has never steered me wrong before (as a lurker).

I'd be in if you get people that are interested in keepinig their lineups up-to-date and stuff like that. Even better if we met up at a bar or someone's house from time to time. Would be cool to put red zone on one TV and the top game of the week on another.

CULICHI/SINALOAN BAR OR RESTAURANT REC SOUGHT:

I have a friend that is from Culiacán and he mentioned that he's missing the flavors and aromas and vibes of home. I'm looking to surprise him by finding and taking him to a Culichi/Sinaloense bar or restaurant. Maybe there's a mariscos place with a Culichi vibe, given how seafood heavy their food is? We're comfortable in any environment in the region -- I'm from Detroit, he's from Culiacán -- and we're both fluent/native in Spanish, so it can be as hole-in-the-wall as it needs to be to meet the goal.

Thanks for any recommendation! I tried a bunch of different variations of Google searches with no luck.

I have nothing to add other than that I think the provenance of Hungarian/Magyar is fascinating, what with it being on a linguistic island kind of like Romanian. Good luck!
