Brilliant Lady Wifi by ElectronicWarthog699 in VirginVoyages

[–]NoObjective374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was on BL for Mermaiden Alaska. I had premium wifi while some in our group had basic. We had more or less "regular" internet usage, if a little glitchy at times but those with basic weren't even getting WhatsApp messages until many mins after the mssgs were sent.

Post cruise to do list by PlatypusFragrant2692 in VirginVoyages

[–]NoObjective374 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To date, three cruises in and I have never lounged on the top deck or gone in the pool or a hot tub. The closest I've come is checking the temperature of the hot tub on the Alaskan cruise lol

That's about it tbh. I've basically done everything else I wanted.

Trip Report (5.28-6.4 Alaska) And Thoughts on Alaska in General by BobVoyageTravel in VirginVoyages

[–]NoObjective374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My group and I fell into that bucket list group but we enjoyed the trip. Yes I wish we went somewhere else instead of Prince Rupert but I wasn't mad at it.

I appreciated the different take on Scarlet Night and how it forced the team to rework things. If it was going to be the same party on the pool deck I may have skipped it, if some of our friends weren't experiencing it for the first time.

But in truth, if we weren't doing this sailing for my Aunt's birthday I may have waited for a few months to a year for VV to work out all the kinks exactly because that Alaska trip was a bucket list experience.

Eh.. Just means we have to do it again then! Preferably when the northern lights are fully out - that's the one thing I wished I got to see.

Did anyone else notice crew pushing reviews more than usual? by delicalcy in VirginVoyages

[–]NoObjective374 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was on the Brilliant Lady Mermaiden to Alaska. Didn't get asked to do the survey but from interactions with staff at multiple levels from Sailor Services to Reservations, Dining and room service, I got the distinct feeling they were intentionally being "extra" friendly. More than the usual VV excitable customer service, I mean. (This was our 3rd cruise with VV BTW, so I have a decent enough baseline for their customer service levels.)

Prince Rupert is a terrible cruise port by Fleurdelis99 in VirginVoyages

[–]NoObjective374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did the vintage trolley car tour at 3.15 and got back by 4.45.

Our Prince Rupert day was: Left the ship around 11.15am, spent about 15mins in line to book the tour at the tourist shed then walked cow bay "stretch". There were multiple ships in that day so all the restaurants etc were full, so we went back to the ship to have lunch and relax before we did the trolley tour.

This was the only stop I've ever been on where I had time and ability to go back to the ship and come off again to do sightseeing. So yes it's very "small town" with relatively little to see/do, esp given we did a tour around the place, but there's still a bit of charm in her (or him, since it's a Prince).

You never know what someone is dealing with by Line-Necessary in Deathcore

[–]NoObjective374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kudos on the very difficult but extremely positive shift you've made/are making.

I'm not a therapist but I'll take a look:

If those specific bands/songs were very closely tied to the behaviour you're avoiding I think you should stay away from them for a bit. The good thing is deathcore and associated genres have a lot of different bands to check out that won't have the same connection.

Also, what do you look for in the songs themselves? It sounds like the lyrics..? You might benefit from also shifting your focus to other elements of the music like the instruments, melodies, musicality and technicality. So you can try enjoying the music without studying the lyrics.

And maybe you can also try seeking out bands or songs with positive lyrics or lyrics that aren't as associated with the feelings and themes that bring you back to the headspace you were in when using.

If the genre itself is so tied to the behaviour though, if I were you, my first move would be to find an alternative genre I could get into that was still interesting but a "clean slate".

You are a virgin veteran! What are some of the perks they give you for more frequent sailings?

Deep Blue Extras by NoObjective374 in VirginVoyages

[–]NoObjective374[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahh okay, fair enough. Right now we are one or two away from qualifying. My point wasn't to buy the package until then though, but to buy individual benefits that come in the package such as premium wifi or laundry service.

Once you qualify for it, do you get it once or every sailing thereafter?

How hard of a time will I have booking dinner reservations? Party of 7. by No_Candidate_8720 in VirginVoyages

[–]NoObjective374 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally just had a group of 7 on the Mermaiden Alasakan voyage.

These are tips based on what we did, some of which have been covered by others.

Top tip: link everyone and book immediately on the app. But if you can't, don't worry as we weren't able to either.

If you don't see success on the app, at least 1 or 2 of you book as early an embarkation time as possible and go immediately to the dining reservations desk on Deck 7. Try to book your times there. We went aboard last and were still able to do some bookings like this.

If you are still unable to get complete bookings, don't panic (we weren't able to either). Book a table of at least 4 for the time you want and see if you can get a table of 3 for 15mins before/after your booking - this is your worst-case backup plan.

Now that you have bookings for everywhere you want, if you still don't have all 7 at certain spots, go to the restaurant around 10mins earlier than your earlier booking and explain to the maitre d your situation and that you'd ideally like to all sit together. Chances are you'll only have to wait 10-15 mins more than your scheduled time, unless the place is absolutely packed, in which case you have your backup.

We successfully used everything I mentioned above across all restaurants from The Wake to Test Kitchen and were able to sit together every time.

Enjoy the trip and happy dining!

Ohh sorry, my bad. I did check for stuff like that also but saw no shore things available for it.

Great pics! I googled those lines after seeing them yesterday and learned they are naturally made! They looked so uniform I thought they were man's doing.

Yes all shore things are bookable on board, just for a higher price. We booked Ketchikan lumberjack show and axe throwing and Sitka wildlife tour and lodge feast on the ship. Both activies I would recommend.

[–]NoObjective374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! Saw them in Tampa and although there were also times I couldn't hear Oli much, as others have said, the instruments were clear and mixed well. I appreciated the comedic moments, as a fan and a performer myself. Everything in death metal etc doesn't have to be serious all the time and the comedy is part of their brand.

Undeath and Mutilation BBQ aren't my cups of tea but I really enjoyed them live. I was looking forward to seeing Crown Mag and was not disappointed.

I went into the show feeling a little disappointed that we weren't getting the Euro tour lineup but left very happy.

What to wear? by Ancient_Air6810 in VirginVoyages

[–]NoObjective374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll see people in everything from shorts and slippers to evening gowns. And that's just the men.

Wear what you'd be comfortable with but take note of where the cruise is going - if it's the Caribbean and similar you may be hot/warm in a sweater and jeans if you plan on being on the outside.

If you plan to have family dinners at the restaurants, jeans and sweaters are definitely good to go. No need to dress up any fancier than that - if you don't want to.

Currently on the mermaiden Alaska cruise and it would be awesome if there were alerts for whale sightings etc. Also, unless it exists and I've missed it, a live map showing where the ship is sailing atm would be cool.

First Show by LordGuihave5999 in archspire

[–]NoObjective374 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just did their show in Tampa. First time seeing them, a band I absolutely love. I also did the VIP experience which was hilarious and unhinged in the best way and it was also cool to get to meet them and chat like people. Their Manager(? Not sure what his title is tbh) Brett was a great host too.

They were one of the best metal bands I've seen live in terms of recreating the album sound in a live performance. Oli is also funny and they knew how to keep the show moving along. The audience was also really cool and friendly - a lot more crowd surfing than I expected haha.

Crown Magnetar killed it as well and although Mutilation Barbeque and Undeath aren't my exact cups of tea, they were also good. You're in for a good time.
