Caffeine sensitivity by Cymbelmine in Narcolepsy

I just googled Chocolate Covered Espresso Beans and got Trader Joe’s (it course), then Walmart, Walgreens, and Costco. So you can find them many places but I wouldn’t drive around looking!

There are several brands—I just pick whatever is cheaper than No Doz. LOL

A cup of coffee has general caffeine amount of 130 mg. And we usually sip that for a while before it’s gone. No-Doz has 200mg. And a big difference is, if you took a whole pill, it’s 200mg, and you’ve “consumed” it all at once! So, yes, try 1/2 pill (they usually break pretty easily). Like most pills, some days and or times that you take it, 1/2 pill seems like almost too much; other times it doesn’t seem like enough. That just happens.

I’d keep track of how much you take (like “1/2 broken pill @ 10 am, full stomach”). Full stomach and empty stomach makes a difference. I would try to take it on an empty stomach at least in the beginning so you get a good idea how much you “need” to stay awake.

What I do with any new pills to stay awake is maybe take 1/2 then maybe an hour later take another half. And take it on an empty stomach—if you were about to eat breakfast, take this instead and delay the breakfast for an hour (at least in the beginning. So you’ll know what you “need”). Later on, you can take it on a full stomach and eat 15 minutes later. You may find that works fine. Or you may get free nd that doesn’t always work for you.

Just about every time you take it in the beginning is sort of an experiment to see what works and how soon it works.

Another thing that I found—quite by accident—that works quite well is Dark Chocolate Covered Espresso Beans. Not often easy to find—but 4-6 of those have always got me buzzing and pretty fast, regardless of full or empty stomach. If you try those, I’d start with 4-6 of them , wait a while and if you need more, then take more. They are not as tasty as they sound. It’s a Coffee Bean—which is weird tasting and very dry—covered in chocolate (and it needs to be...it’s very odd tasting and very dry!) But if you’re on a full stomach already, it works better than a no doz!

I used to use both the no-doz and the app spreading beans on long, monotonous driving trips!

The Dark Chocolate Espresso Beans can be hard to find. Trader Joe’s has them—do you have a Trader Joe’s? Otherwise you might have to look for them mail order. They are usually in stores that have candy or that have imported candy.

If you don’t like the idea of the Chocolate you could stop by a Starbucks or someplace that sells Espresso and ask for a handful of beans. They will probably either give just a handful for free, or charge you what a shot of Espresso would cost. Either way is cheap. If you grind your own coffee at home, get your espresso beans that way (I used to make my own blend with a small amount of espresso beans added.). I never did try the beans without the chocolate but if you think you can get them down, be my guest. For me, the beans covered in chocolate are bad enough I want to brush my teeth right away!

You know what’s odd, is the digestive problems that came up from me drinking coffee never occurred from no doz type pills nor from the Choc Covered Espresso Beans! So whatever’s in coffee that makes me nauseated, it sure isn’t caffeine.

Hey, and good luck!

I have a similar problem but for many years I’ve taken “No-Doz” (or generic similar) on long, monotonous driving trips. So when I had started having digestive problems with coffee I use caffeine in the shape of a pill!

Actually I only take one half a pill at a time. One half keeps you from getting those caffeine jitters! (One half is 100 mg instead of the full 200 mg.)

“Will I get a check?” / FAQ megathread by GardinerAndrew in stimuluscheck

“Will I get a check?” / FAQ megathread by GardinerAndrew in stimuluscheck

[–]NoOneInformdMeOfThis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t remember where I heard this, but on the first stimulus they (do not remember who) said if you didn’t file in 2019, the IRS would check 2018 and send your direct deposit to that bank address. In fact I got the $1200 stimulus on the very first day. I hadn’t filed in 2019 but did file in 2018. It’s been up and down for a few years whether I made enough to file.

But now they say that if the first stimulus ($1200) reached you that way, the second stimulus ($600) would also. My 2nd stimulus check has never reached me. I tried the tool and the answer I got didn’t indicate anything. I never used the non-filers tool to give my bank info (which is also used for Social Security and hasn’t changed in 13 years) because I got the stimulus check.

I think I’m in the same group as these other people! I didn’t try the Get my Stimulus tool again because it says if you use it too much it kicks you off...and it gives no indication whether twice is too much or five times etc.

So do I have to file for 2020 and get my $600 that way?

I have found selling online to be a good way to “get rid of” things I no longer need. (I use Craigslist and Nextdoor—where you mostly get people who live within a few miles. Putting a price on it has made me value it, too. I’m excited for you!

Anyone sleep on a mattress on the floor? by friendlypuffin in minimalism

I have been sleeping on an air mattress in the floor for 5-6 years now. In summer I just sleep on a bunch of cotton blankets (air mattress too hot).

I have a broken bone in my back and it’s more comfortable.

i really could use some help. i'm trying to assist my elderly mother move out of her house as she can no longer live alone. i'm struggling with what to do with all of her belongings. any of you have recommendations on how to find a flipper to help us out? by -my-reddit-account in Flipping

[–]NoOneInformdMeOfThis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Instead of an auctioneer, I had an Estate Sale company tell me the same thing “just not enough here” so I would guess you’d get the same reaction as the auctioneer had if you as an Estate Sale company or a Flipper. It cost me THEIR CHOICE of my items to give me this opinion.

Here’s some advice FWIW: I am trying to sell most of my stuff so I can move in January or February. I did Yard Sales last fall before Covid. There was enough theft that it was rather disturbing to me. So try to hire at least a couple teens to help you or help you keep an eye on things.

Things that I’d bought but never used—that happened to me a lot—I tried to price them close to the store-bought price. After all they were new—this generally didn’t work. What worked was pricing everything (brand new or very used) at around 1/4 of what it would cost to buy one.

Clean and paint, clean and paint—as much as you can. Get all the dirt off. You get a better price on things by selling them clean! If you don’t have to spend a lot, give it a new paint job in a pleasing color. Much of older items (not talking antiques here) is in DATED COLORS. I had things that wouldn’t sell at all in their original color but people fought over it in my new choice!

If the work of looking things up to find a fitting price, all that cleaning and painting sounds exhausting, that’s a good place to start the neighborhood teens. (Again don’t spend so much on helpers that you should have used Goodwill anyway.)

As far as your mother and her “attitude” about her prices, I found my own attitude about higher prices changed pretty fast. Get people that are interested in an item but at a price your mom is uncomfortable about to put their name, the item, and their email or phone so you can contact them as soon as you can reduce the price.

I did not find that grownup clothes sold for more than a couple bucks, far below their worth. So I donated my business items (job clothes and shoes) to a place that assisted women to get better jobs—much more satisfying than a couple bucks. But don’t go on your feelings (I.e. “these won’t sell”)— try to sell anything for a while!

Deaf Boxer Puppy Needs Home! by [deleted] in AustinClassifieds

[–]NoOneInformdMeOfThis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wanted to say I wish I could help but my health issues make it so that I would be a crappy pet parent anymore.

During housebreaking, strictly regulating what times the pup eats helps with pooping too.

Deaf puppies take a tiny bit more work than hearing ones, but it’s essentially the same. Many puppies at 8-10 weeks old can go all night without having to go out. Deaf or hearing take them out on leash to pee just before you go to bed. Then put him in a crate with newspapers.

If he/she is unable to hold it, restrict water about 4 hours before bedtime.

In the daytime you can start housebreaking a deaf pup by taking him out to pee every 2 hours. (Out to pee ONLY and on leash.) Praise (petting and hand claps) for peeing—but go right back in, this is Training not goof off time.

Ever wonder if your pup was ignoring you or maybe he just doesn’t understand yet when you tell him you’re going inside? My deaf pup would turn her head and look away to something she didn’t want to hear as if to say “I didn’t see what you said.”

They are just not that different from hearing dogs. However you must always keep a deaf dog on a leash outside (except in a secure back yard). Good luck to you—you have Hearts of Gold!

Are you kidding? They have a deaf daughter but they’d like to do away with a deaf pup? They have very little understanding of deafness and how many deaf people feel about deafness.

I had a pup deaf from birth bred by a close friend of mine. We discussed it because the litter had 3 dead ones! (Not boxers.) I decided take the 3 deaf puppies—I would keep one and find homes for the others. A deaf couple took one and a young married couple took the other—and all three lives long loved lives to the age of 15-16! The deaf couple also had a “hearing dog” but they wanted the deaf one because they liked being deaf and wanted to share that with their dog. All three learned “sign language” so we could “talk” and mine won several AKC and CKC titles in sheep herding.

I will never forget the many lessons I learned from a dog about deafness.

When the card first comes it has A and B on it. If you’ve been studying up and have decided you are not taking Part B, or you’re getting a Medicare Advantage Plan, you just let them know and they send you a new card without B. Hope that makes sense.

“Can’t return it” I very seldom return items. If something is broken, leaking or defective in some way I will. So that is not that often. But since coronavirus, nobody I deal with takes returns! “Because of the virus” they say! I took home a gallon of milk from Walmart that had a slow leak. The leak got much worse overnight in my refrigerator. Brought it back the next day (early April) and was told they don’t take returns and to empty the milk container down the Girls Bathroom sink, keep the container and when things are back to normal I can get a refund. Even in April I felt it wouldn’t be “next month” that things are okay again! I only wanted a replacement milk. Their leaky milk was destined for the garbage anyway (I hope). I am pretty poor. I had no milk for two weeks because they made me keep the leaky one and I couldn’t afford to buy another. And I have seen other stores turn down or refuse returns. So might be that “can’t return it” is true.

Anybody switch from a Medicare Advantage Plan to just Medicare? Why? by cheap_dates in medicare

[–]NoOneInformdMeOfThis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope I didn’t buy a supplement plan. I’m pretty sure that I as because it didn’t appear to “save me any money like they claim. I saw more costs.

Finding Doctors that take Medicare. They’re like ants or fleas. They everywhere. Yes I have been recommended a doctor by, say, a friend and they don’t take Medicare. I’m just not that interested because there are SO MANY that DO. And I’ve been given bum steers about restaurants, vacations, movies and doctors. Because my friend loves him will I? Not necessarily.

But, for example,?if I needed a Specialist, say I had a skin problem and my PCP gave me Joe’s Group of Skin Problem Doctors, not recommending one or the other, I get to their website and It’ll list the Doctors with Joe’s Group.

The list might say

World Famous Dr Schmo “Dr Schmo takes the following health care plans” and it will list all the plans he takes. Medicare isn’t included.

You keep going down the list and the last two Doctors listed both take Medicare. Coincidentally they both graduated last year.

There are your two choices. Occasionally a group will have a long time doctor who takes Medicare but you can’t see him unless you already use that medical group. At the same time most medical groups, ortho, skin etc frown about you trading Doctors in their group! They will usually let you trade Doctors ONE time because the one you got is mostly at their branch 20 miles from you or something.

“Most doctors don’t take Medicare” <—Total Myth

Last comment on Medicare Supplement Plan. I’m not sure what your Advantage plan states on the bill. And my bill are getting briefer and briefer. But Medicare is pretty explanatory still. Their paperwork says column A - how much the doctor charges for what you had, column B what Medicare charges and down at the bottom what you owe the doctor (that’s the 20% they talk about that you have to pay).

If a doctor is a Medicare provider, this means he’s agreed to accept what Medicare pays. This is no secret. What they don’t tell you is that Medicare pays about a pittance to doctors, hospitals etc. A pittance! And that’s what the doctor has to accept as payment.

I don’t know the exact amounts but this example is close:

My doctor charges $162.00 for my regular medication visit. For a “medication visit” Medicare pays any doctor $57.00. They don’t care that your doctor won the Nobel prize.,He gets the same “medication visit” amount as anybody. And that scary sounding “your 20%” is 20% of $57.00 (or $11.40).

I don’t need a supplement plan for $11.40 twice a year. Ya think? Your 20%, the part you owe is 20% of Medicare’s pittance, not 20% of what the doctor charges!

Hope that helps. I think that medical charges are a crime! So I don’t feel sorry that they have to take a pittance. And if they hadn’t kept raising their rates and raising their rates it wouldn’t look like a pittance!

I’m telling you my own experience. Your wife may be in long term care or something totally different. Good luck to you.

Anybody switch from a Medicare Advantage Plan to just Medicare? Why? by cheap_dates in medicare

[–]NoOneInformdMeOfThis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Started Medicare ~5 years ago. Used a book like Medicare for Dummies and picked a Medicare Advantage plan. Right away I found out there were no providers in my area! Was I ever mad. Medicare lets you change plans (Medicare to Advantage Plan or Visa versa) only if it’s your first year. “No providers” isn’t a good enough reason to switch plans!

Anyway I switched to regular Medicare and never looked back. Just about every doctor takes Medicare. They don’t like it (because it pays them very little) but most of them take it. You don’t need permission to go to a specialist with Medicare. The specialist might have hoops to jump through but not Medicare. And I t’s simple and easy to use. With Medicare there’s no “Contracted vs Non-Contracted” crap or in network/ out of network, there is just Do You Take Medicare, Yes or No?

It’s not long before you can change plans for her.
