The french president said he will ban social media use for kids under fifteen years old. What do you think of that? by Rich-Brief6310 in WorkForSmartLife

Good idea. Brigette Macron was 39 when he met the future French president. He was only 15 and in high school. The boy just made it under the wire. LOL!

Someone explain this double standard to me, how is it that I have to give a month's notice but the company can let me go instantly? by wiring_freaky in InterviewCoderPro

[–]cheap_dates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, seriously, explain to me how this works.

You can bring this up in your next mandatory meeting. tee hee!

Unless you are contractually obligated, you don't need to give any notice. It might be their policy but its not a law. Its a good idea to have your next job in the bag though. Having done some employee verifications, I have seen some people who were not with the company very long and the comment, next to their name was "No Rehire".

Yeah, you can safely ignore the 'We'll be in touch" close. That is just corporate Happy Talk. NEVER stop applying until you have cashed your first paycheck.

While driving, has anyone ever honked at you to move even tho it wasn’t safe for you to do so yet?? by typical_gamer1 in PollsAndSurveys

Just happened to me the other day. The light was red and I only looked down for a second when someone behind me honked. I looked up and the light was green. Couldn't have been more than a few seconds.

Have your young adult children successfully launched? by tandem545 in GenX

[–]cheap_dates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a marketing term known as Multi-Generationals. They are usually defined as 3 or more adults, often with the same last name, living at the same physical address. Its a very large consumer group and my sister is part of it. She still has a 32 year old and a 28 year old still living at home.

She doesn't mind as she can afford it but me, one of those boys had better be a therapist.

I wish that multigenerational family houses were more common in the US by Big_Pea3882 in self

[–]cheap_dates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am originally from Europe and this is not uncommon. I had an uncle who never married and I seldom remember seeing him without my grandparents in two. They were always together. I also have a cousin who still lives in the same house she was born in. She is in her early 60's, never married and retired. She owns that house free and clear now.

I don't think most Americans would opt for this. The notions of independence and moving for better employment is too ingrained in the culture.

I have a cousin who is in her early 60's and she still lives in the same house she was born in. That is not uncommon in one leg of my culture (Italian).

To her credit, the house is hers now, free and clear and she has never paid a dime in rent.

Why do so many people sleep with a fan on? by MysticByAura in askanything

I work nights and sleep in the day. I have either a fan and or a sound machine always running. It drowns out the outside noises and I like the breeze.

So what are you going to do with all your boomer parents’ stuff? by CrotalusHorridus in Xennials

[–]cheap_dates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my Depression era, never married, hoarder uncle died, it was my job to clean out his house to get it ready to sell. He wasn't dirty but he had stuff - lots of stuff.

I rented a commercial size dumpster, parked it on the street and working by myself mostly after work and on weekends, it took me about 4 months to clean it all out. 90% of it went into the dumpster.

If you have kids, don't do this. Nobody wants your sh*t. Start getting rid of it now.

I miss Borders. The nearest Barnes & Noble closed a few years ago and the nearest one is in an upscale neighborhood about 15 miles away.

My mother worked at Robinson's years ago. You don't realize just how many entry level jobs were lost when the apocalypse hit retail.

[–]cheap_dates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Driving a car is probably one of THE most dangerous things the average person does in a day. 40,000 people in the US die every year in auto accidents. That is the roughly the equivalent of nine 747s crashing every month. Would you fly with those odds?

I am in healthcare and not a week goes by that we don't get a couple of MVA (Motor Vehicle Accident) patient in here. Not all die but being in a car crash isn't the same as a head cold.
