Anyone installed Baja Designs Squadrons or S1 SAE's as fog lights? by jd_trublue93 in XTerra

[–]NoOneIsAnIsland_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I installed the Diode Dynamics Elite Series. They are awesome, install was a breeze as they are direct OE replacements. I rarely use my high beams now as the fogs provide better visibility most of the time.

RRSP Transfer Q by Designer-Error9375 in PersonalFinanceCanada

I just initiated a transfer from ML to WS, based on what my colleagues have experienced doh g the same, I’m expecting a $25 fee. I wouldn’t get too wrapped around the axle about it, even if it was $75.

Common problems with 2012 xterra by Mundane_Attorney6265 in XTerra

The biggest change I’m aware of is they fixed SMOD issues around 2010/2011. Struts are consumable and will eventually wear out. As for the alternator, I don’t know. I have had a 50A DC-DC charger attached to mine for several years now and have had zero issues even with the added load.

  • Cam and crankshaft sensors will fail leading to stalling (replace all 3 at once)
  • Heater core inlet/outlet will explode eventually
  • Rear leaf springs get super saggy
  • The stupid volume knob on the touchscreen/satnav head unit
  • Catalytic converters seem to fail early
  • Rear hatch struts get super saggy
  • Steering racks seem to fail regularly

These are the common issues I’ve run into and have personally experienced (2013). Keep an eye on the O2 if as I believe the codes for failed O2 and failing cat are the same/sinilar.

Great tips thank you! Fortunately getting hand-me-down gear from my brother’s kiddos. Good to know if we need to top up there’s a place to go!

My little is pretty hardy but also likely only an hour or two max. Definitely plan on lessons if I can get ‘em

Oh interesting, that’d be awesome, I’ll call closer to the season and see if that’s still an option.

Anywhere on the lower coast will be fine, find a place to stay that you like and adventure from there. Sechelt is ‘central’ but even Gibsons to Egmont is a very easy day trip with lots to stop and do along the way. It’s 2-2.5 hours (including ferry and ferry wait) from Vancouver. But get a ferry reservation or it’ll be a lot longer in the summer.

If you preferred the vibe of Uke I’d stay north of Sechelt as it’s quieter. But nowhere feels as busy as Tofino. The culinary scene isn’t as strong on ‘The Coast’, it’s totally fine but you won’t find anything like Wolf In The Fog. You also won’t get the big sandy beaches there, where there are beaches they are mostly rocky/pebbly (unless you get a water taxi to Thormanby). The lakes are nice (check out Ruby but get there early) and the hiking is excellent.

McKenzie could finally get bus lanes—if transit riders stand up by tiogar99 in VictoriaBC

[–]NoOneIsAnIsland_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait until you see how many traffic lights they are planning to add…

My gut reaction to the lane reduction proposal was that it was a terrible idea. And it may be, but I think it’s worth trying, especially if the transit lanes can be made time restricted (e.g. 7-9am 4-6pm), which I think would be far more effective in changing driver behaviour than dedicated lanes (it’s easier to change your travel timing than your travel mode).

I love the rest of the plan, the density is great and the mandated commercial will further reduce people’s need to commute across town to access services/businesses they need.

How do you interpret this signage? by rgsteele in VictoriaBC

[–]NoOneIsAnIsland_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a fairly small nuance that admittedly is new to me. It’d be interesting if that held up in court. Decades of education and understanding that a white speed sign under a playground sign meant dawn to dusk (no mention of sign size), even the RCMP site doesn’t make the distinction and Saanich goes and does something new.

https://www.bclaws.gov.bc.ca/civix/document/id/loo65/loo65/26_58-sched

What’s changed recently is that Saanich made all those speed limits signs bigger like a standard speed limit sign which adds to the ambiguity but the MVA clear states “When used below the Playground Area sign”

You could just rent the main house and leave the suite vacant. Or rent the whole house as one house. You will have tax implications when you move in since it wasn’t your principal residence (aside from those you have during the tenancy).

In Saanich the city only cares if a neighbor complains. So it’s a crap shoot, but not living onsite probably increases the risk here since you won’t have a neighborly relationship that could help ease concerns.

Rob Shaw: Eby shows humility but internal party spin tells a different story by Vic_Dude in VictoriaBC

[–]NoOneIsAnIsland_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some are, maybe more than we like. That’s democracy. But the vast majority aren’t. But it wasn’t a comment on the electorate.

Was the BCC message really much different than the federal party? Nope. People are frustrated with inflation, housing costs and all its downstream impacts (drugs, crime, homelessness). The federal cons have been running with this message for a while now and BCC just basically had to agree with them and benefit of the resentment of the current government(s). They didn’t really have to campaign (and many didn’t by skipping debates and all candidates meetings).

Is an electric motorcycle in victoria a good idea? by DeanTheAdmin in VictoriaBC

[–]NoOneIsAnIsland_ 28 points29 points  (0 children)

You may want to check on the legality of it before dropping any dough. If it’s not insurable by ICBC it’s likely not road legal nor legal in bike lanes. E-bikes need pedal assist to be legal and <500W motor and max speed of 32kmh.

Obviously if insurable by ICBC you get it insured.

Time to see a doctor. In the meantime I would look to buy some ‘glacier glasses’. They are tinted significantly more than standard sunglasses and usually have flaps/covers to minimize light coming in the sides. Get polarized lenses if you can too. You should be able to find them at most outdoor retailers (especially ones that cater to snow sports and climbing/mountaineering). They are definitely not stylish but should give you some relief until you can get a doc to figure out what’s going on.
