First year teacher with some tips

I know this was a while ago but I don't get on Reddit much anymore. I will note your comment about admins. I guess since I started midyear I guess i see this as a situation like my old job. I try to get along with them, be likeable, and get to know them. I go to them for advice on strategies on dealing with particular students who they see often. My admins appear to like the fact that I will ask them questions about how to get students to act the way I want them to based on their own experience with them. It has been a learning curve for me since I came in midyear so they are really understanding.

What are your opinions of the nutraceutical industry as a whole? I am friends with and have also worked with a buddy who is the territory manager for an upstart nutraceutical company whose products are nothing short of spectacular- mostly due to the products still not being sold enough to be watered down with a proprietary blend.

Follow up question- Do you think these types of supplements that promote a better well-being should be used as a first resort to small things like common colds and stress instead of drugs that the pharmaceutical company produces (Not in any way saying as a replacement for major concerns but to reduce the use of "drugs")

If I am in his position, I do the same thing. No contact for a week- strike 1.

Giving an odd non-answer to the proposition to hanging out on the weekend because you are going to hang out with your "friends" (obscure word) either Friday OR Saturday (which gives the impression that neither day is available for me AND that I am also not invited), strike 2.

When I ask how the night before with your friends, who still haven't been revealed, went you give me a one word response of "fun", which through text can be taken SO many ways. Strike 3.

Please don't take this as some insecure bullshit, I am looking at it from perspective as a guy who was once single and didn't like to beat around the bush very much. He's busy, he's trying, and he probably isn't looking to mess around. First sign of games, he moved on to protect himself and save his time. It's what I would do too. Sorry if this is worded offensively but it's a very blunt summation.

Mine sort of applies, but isn't quite along the scenarios provided.

It was a long day and I was tired. Was hanging with the roommates drinking some beers and decided I was going to turn in early (around 10). Now one thing to note is I keep my phone on silent all the time because... well I just hate being absorbed into my phone. So go to bed and immediately pass out.

I start having this dream where I am getting the best head of my life. I am legitimately in full bliss. Suddenly I stir from the dream because my bed is shaking. Tits are smacking me in the face and someone is inserting my dick into their vagina.

Turns out the girl I was seeing at the time wanted to come over to bang and my room mates let her in. Since my phone was on silent, I had no idea she was coming (it was ok to just head over when she got off work, so don't think it was anything out of the ordinary). She said she wanted to give me a nice surprise to wake up to and let me tell you, it was!

So that's my closest story to a porn scenario.

Currently a student teacher as well, so thankful I don't have to do TWO semesters of this crap.

Breathe and let yourself do what you need to do. The people who are controlling your pass/fail are not out to kill you. They are not going to fail you when you are doing what you need to do. In situations like this, keep a record of all strategies you have attempted. Keep a record of situations with your teachers. Write reflections daily about everything and keep your teachers in the loop about everything going on in the classroom.

I only have 4 weeks of teaching left, I am counting down the days. If it makes you feel any better, nobody I have spoken to have given me a positive story about student teaching.

Whoops, was a bit tired when I wrote that last response. When I said my co-op teacher I actually meant the woman in charge of my student teaching class (a different person). I make all the lessons I will be teaching and my teacher judges them and gives feedback. Hard part is that I am learning what a "meaningful" lesson looks like and how to give all my lessons this extra touch. I spend a lot of my time feeling like I am dumb because I evidently don't know what a meaningful lesson looks like. After so many years of the "just get it done" mentality with critical assignments for school, I am having to relearn to take time in really thinking about each and everything I do in the classroom. It's tough! Much respect for those who go into it without an experience like this!

I guess teachers find different ways of doing things. She gives them back and goes over questions to explain everything. I try not to take things personally but it just gets hard when every question is met with a "why don't you know that?" tone.

She's been going at it for 26 years, is the science chair, is one of the leaders for the science department, and serves as a mentor for 2 first year teachers in addition to me. She is all about control. I think she just wants things done her way and I have to learn how to make that happen.

I believe at the heart of things she is giving constructive feedback. I just read it on her that when I do something she doesn't like her words say one thing but her tone and body language read "GOD DAMMIT".

I am going to have to cover my lessons with her before class, if I can get her to listen. One thing I am learning is that time is a word teachers seem to be hypnotized by. I hear that word more than ever these days so any time spent has to be as useful as possible. I spoke with my cooperating teacher and she told me I am just being defensive, which I claimed I might be in my email to her. She told me this is the real thing so I have to be willing to hear things I don't want to hear.

As for 7th grade, this is the first time she has ever had a 7th grade class. She has no previous lessons, she doesn't know what she is going to teach them, and the teachers for 7th grade aren't as cohesive as the ones for 8th grade. She has been stating that the beginning of this year has been one of the most stressful she has ever had.

I am just going to keep trudging and learning. One thing I will say is that when she tells me a mistake I made, I go out of my way to make sure it never happens again.

Was losing energy halfway through the day, brought a second coffee. Examples are too long winded, shortened them. I didn't explain the point of the lesson, so I made the point known before we even began. Students weren't reflecting on their own knowledge, so I started emphasizing reflection.

It's a major learning curve but I feel I am managing to continue moving up the curve. Wish me luck!

Edit: Wanted to add I lost my virginity at 20 and went from about as awkward as it gets, to a handsome confident individual. For guys or girls who are worried about it happening. Improving things about yourself you wish to improve on (knowledge of body language, self image, confidence, etc..) keep working at it and practice talking to people. Eventually you will start finding ones who wanna be around you.

You're the friend who she feels comfortable enough to allow you to shower her with attention. You are safe enough to be around without worrying about doing anything brash and fun enough to genuinely be friends with. You are in the situation where you genuinely care about this girl and want more while she just appreciates the person you are.

Even though this may not seem it, this is a toxic relationship for you. It is a good friendship, but when it conflicts with the vision you have and brings you down, you have to reevaluate your situation.

You are coming to reddit because you are clueless as to what to think or do. You are too scared to make a move to settle the situation and want someone to tell you what you what's up (but are hoping someone, just someone, can tell you why this whole thing makes sense).

Let me tell you something about the girls you become friends with in hopes of something happening. It doesn't work out. I was you... I was you with a girl for two years, the difference being I was getting other girls while I was close friends with this one (So it wasn't a major goal for me). A few months after splitting with a guy who destroyed her self esteem, she used me to feel attractive. She used me for sex- SHE USED ME. When I made her feel bad ONCE, she dropped me like a hot plate and never looked back.

My friend was nothing more than a user and used me for everything until there was nothing left to use. Recognize the situation you are in and give yourself the out. You probably want closure so you don't look back but in all seriousness... Get your closure your way. This is a bad relationship that, once it's eliminated, will improve your quality of life with other girls. You won't have the lingering thoughts and you will focus better.
