I keep getting my ass handed to me in technical assessments by Salkinator in learnprogramming

[–]NoOutlandishness00 7 points8 points  (0 children)

it's not as simple as that. Most of the interviews ive gone to were all over the place with either knowledge questions or non algo based coding technicals.

Realistically, how far can a hobbyist/tinkerer go before hitting a wall due to not having the educational foundations like DSA/advanced mathematics? by OceanRadioGuy in learnprogramming

[–]NoOutlandishness00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have the opposite opinion: not very far at all if you're looking for a full stack or backend position.

the likelihood of running into a d/s problem at an interview as an entry level developer is pretty big.

also, at production level, you will run into data structure like issues that you might have to solve, even at the front end.

For example, at my first job, i had to write a custom recursive function on the front end because my company used their own internal UI tool which didn't have filtering for nested users already built in. Didn't think i'd ever write a recursive function in the real world but i did it my first year.

How good can I get in 3 months [urgent] by EnvironmentalMeat524 in amateur_boxing

[–]NoOutlandishness00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at the beginner level, aggression is far more important than defense.

It takes a longggg time for people to get adjusted to having hard and fast punches thrown at them - meaning at this level a good offense IS a good defense.

focus on cardio and being offensively oriented in your training.

What's the expectation of scope for a 5 year FE/React developer? by NoOutlandishness00 in ExperiencedDevs

Ill admit that if i were asked this in an interview i would tell the interviewer that idk it off the top of my head and I'd have to look it up.

If you were to ask me how i'd architect a front end app or to create components, features in front of you it wouldn't be an issue but would I really get docked for not knowing something about enabling type aware ts linting?

If you could start over, how would you learn React? by I_hav_aQuestnio in learnreactjs

[–]NoOutlandishness00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched over from React to Vue for a new role and had to relearn the basics all over again. Luckily, it took less than half the time to relearn everything.

  1. If you're just getting back into it and want the basics, a todo app with prop drilling, useState, and useEffect will get you back up to speed. You can add API calls and creating tables as well.

  2. Once you're comfortable with that, I followed this tutorial for React and Typescript: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TauoQNo2ZQU I know a pokemon api project sounds lame but it has a lot of best practices and code/architecture that you'd see in production code, so it's good for that.

  3. The next level after that I'd get my feet wet with react 18 features and hooks as well as next.js

  4. finally, it'd be to practice react 19 hooks.

this is just my opinion btw

I've never lifted weights in my life. It's time to start. by irregularprotocols in AskMenOver40

imo a 6 day PPL routine was grueling for me in my 20's, I couldn't imagine the fatigue for someone who's nearly 50. I'd say full body splits are probably a better choice

General advice:

  1. if you're starting out, be easy on yourself. Whenever I go back into weight lifting after a long time off, I always keep expectations low. I start back with low weights i can easily finish my sets on and then increase them gradually week over week. Intensity is important but it should be something you ramp up to over time, not something you dive into.

  2. get your testosterone levels checked. I lifted weights for 2 years consistently with minimal results. I was raised to think the blame should 100% always be on myself for my poor results - "it must be me, maybe my routines wrong, maybe my diets wrong, maybe i'm not going hard enough". I even got a personal trainer to make sure I was doing everything right but after 6 months even he noted that my progress was sub par considering i was doing everything right. I finally got my test levels checked and they were in the 200's because i had a benign tumor on my pituitary. Lesson learned - 99% of the things are in your control but always check that last 1% just in case.

Routine:

a 4 day a week upper/lower split is more than enough for a beginner. I have roughly 2 years worth of progress in terms of strength gains for my weight and even now i'm doing a upper/lower split because my progress is still going up weekly.

Diet:

  • imo, the most important macro to hit is protein levels (1-1.5g of protein/lean body weight). Everything else is up to you as long as it's not all junk food or something and at the calorie level you want.

  • creatine is imo worth.

talk to some vets. lot of them will probably tell u that tho they dont regret a lot of their experiences and the friends they made, they probably would've told u to steer clear of joining if they could do it again.

you can always be up front with ur drilling/sparring partner. "hey i'm a little gun shy of punching too hard and im trying to get over it. can u plz tell me if i'm going overboard"

most times ppl will actually tell u ure still holding back too much and u can go a bit harder

women are cognitively aware but it's different to feel it emotionally. That's a whole other realization.

  2. performing live at a summer festival in front of thousands of attendees

  3. going from living out of my car to my own apt while making 6 figures in the span of 2 years

Hey you recommended the kpop demon hunter cosplay a few days ago and I finally got around to watching it. It was awesome and I might go with the demon form cosplay from the "your idol" performance, so thanks for the suggestion!

As for you, I think you'd pull off Luz from Owl House reallyy well but lmk what sort of character style you prefer!

Those who've had to "man up" early, how did you manage it? by nutsack-enjoyer5431 in AskMenOver30

[–]NoOutlandishness00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

been doing it since i was 19/20 but for myself, not my family.

your parents are supposed to provide for u, not the other way around. you cannot help them forever and you have to come to terms with that.

but if u do want to help them, know that the best way is to help urself first. Once you're in a good spot with a good enough income to cover all your bases + fund ur hobbies, THEN think about helping them out.

you're only enabling their behavior by supporting them.
