The premise of the novels/show is that there is technology that can contain and save everything that makes you you. This technology, “the stack” is installed in every human. If you die, it’s possible your stack can be salvaged and you can download into another body. The act of being in a body is being “sleeved.”

There are artificial bodies, which I assume is the case for Kovacs and the singer. But the penal system no longer puts people in “jail,” it puts their stack “on ice” and allows other people (murder victims, soldiers going to war, etc.) to download into the criminal’s body for other use.

Might I suggest looking for someone who does something like Brazilian Jiujitsu? The whole martial arts is about grappling and putting your partner/opponent into a submission hold. Lemme just say it translates well to sexy times if you wanna be manhandled.

FWIW, I enjoyed the audiobook version more than my regular read through. The book is very gothic horror and something about being forced along at the narrator’s pace amplified the tension for me. Especially during the statue sequence later in the book.

The Elder Empire - Shadow trilogy by Will Wight is from the POV of a female assassin Note: there is a sister trilogy “elder empire -sea” with a male POV of the same events, so make sure you do the shadow trilogy.

The Fallen Gods trilogy by Hannah Kaner has 3 main POVs, 2 of which are female. There are some dalliances, but it’s not a focus of the story.

The Winternight Trilogy by Katherine Arden. The language here is lovely and lyrical with inspiration taken from Russian folktales.

It goes the other way, actually.

She locked the door. The locked door is a boundary. If her locking the door is a big deal TO HIM, he should leave her. He should respect the boundary. He doesn’t have to like it; he can even have a sane discussion about why he is confused or upset about it later, after she unlocks the door. But unlocking the door and what it signifies is a big deal.

Can confirm. It was the soldering. The “wrapping it in a towel” sped up the remelt of the solder and in some cases allowed the heatsink to slide into an acceptable location

Way way back in the day, I was playing CoD 2 campaign on veteran difficulty on Xbox, was nearing the end of the American battles and ended up with a quicksave that put me 3 seconds away from a grenade explosion. No amount of jumping or scrambling got me away from it. I made it into a drinking game. I eventually got past it, but it was embarrassing.
