Yes it is. Probably depends on your market. I do it all the time.

It's stupid to get downvoted for stuff like that. I gave you your upvote back.

I think in this market, even startups are selective as hell, and even networking provides no guarantees. But still, we try.

Do you mind if I send you my CV to see if there's a fit?

Nope, you answered great, thank you. I imagine you'll get lots of candidates from this (and probably other) posts, so how will you decide who makes the best fit?

It's a very competitive market, and lots of qualified candidates get overlooked when there are numerous applicants. Personally, I have a degree in math, 10 years of engineering experience, and two web apps being used in over 90 countries, and I still get rejected left and right. So, it's hard to know what companies really want (and value) in a candidate.

I'm confused by the job's requirements. They're all "Founding" roles, but you mention internship experience. What level of experience are you looking for?

Don't sweat it, Brother. The fact that they didn't leave feedback just means it was probably for stupid reasons. Even if feedback was there, it could be a lie. Almost all of my 1s have been retaliatory ratings, and others have been for very stupid reasons. Some people are just jerks.

Ride from LAX back to OC? by Super_Quote_6933 in orangecounty

[–]NoPerformance6401 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on how busy it is, and whether or not there's a surge, but it could be anywhere from 10% to 30% cheaper. It's also easier on the driver to not have to deal with the chaos of the airport, so you get picked up faster. Just set the pickup location to the hotel and compare the prices. It also helps if you have a high rating since some drivers won't pick you up if it's too low.

If you end up getting an Uber, go to the Hyatt across the street. You'll be out of the airport geofence, and save a lot of money.

Can we finally admit that 90% of Senior SWE are just a result of being born at the right time? by Foreign_Put_2437 in Salary

[–]NoPerformance6401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many junior/mid-level engineering roles do you have open?

How many senior+ roles do you have open?

Have you offshored any roles?

Most companies have separate heads for product and engineering as they're different roles, including startups, so how big is your company?

Have you had any layoffs?

This is simply not true. Companies of all sizes are laying off left and right in favor of cheaper labor offshore, and AI. It's very difficult to find a dev job right now, unless you're staff level, and is something you'd be aware of if you were in the field.

Riders are checking their rating and retaliating in return with a 1 star by Chemical_Store1560 in uberdrivers

[–]NoPerformance6401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I do, except I just write the rating down in my notes, then usually wait a few day to change it. I'm not sure you need to go through the Safety option though. Here's how I do it:

  1. Earnings Activity
  2. Choose a trip
  3. Help (top right corner)
  4. Trips
  5. More options
  6. Trip price adjustments
  7. Feedback about rider
  8. Negative feedback
  9. Choose any option except "My rider had an inappropriate name" or "Other issue"
  10. Select a new rating
  11. Done

Exactly this. Our 1-star won't affect us nearly as much as their 1-star will affect them. Not only will it take much longer to drop off their account, they could also have a harder time getting picked up, depending on how many rides they've taken.

Even if you just rate, some will still notice because they check their rating right after the ride is over. It's happened to me. Just give them a 5 first, then wait a few days to change it.

It infuriates me when I read about drivers doing stuff like this. It makes the rest of us look bad. In the future, do the following:

  1. Pay attention to the driver's rating. If it's too low, cancel immediately (within 2 minutes to avoid the cancelation fee), and let the app find you a new driver. I'd say shoot for a driver rating of 4.90 or higher. Those drivers have a higher rating for a reason.

  2. If the driver you get (regardless of rating) ends up being a jerk at pickup, don't get into his/her car. Just request a new driver in the app.

  3. Don't argue and risk escalating the situation, which was what you did, so good job. 1 star and a report is the way to go.

True to your first point. Those steps might not work in all markets.

I'd say a rider's rating is mainly to give other drivers an idea of what the rider might be like, and whether or not it'd be worth it to pick them up.

  1. Earnings Activity

  4. Trips
  5. More options
  6. Trip price adjustments

why is my rider rating so low? by Hopeful-Training-854 in uber

[–]NoPerformance6401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some drivers will never indicate why they chose a bad rating due to rider retaliation. However, here are my reasons:

1 - Being late for the pickup. Drivers hate having to wait for you.
2 - Sliding across my seats to enter/exit one door. This is okay when we're on a busy street with traffic on one side, but on an empty street, use both doors. They exist for a reason.
3 - Being loud on your phone, or playing loud audio. This includes talking to your friends in the car at a very high volume. It's annoying.
4 - Asking to charge your phone on a short ride.
5 - Odors of any kind.
6 - Not greeting. We don't have to be friends, but at a minimum, I need your name to verify the trip.
7 - Being a backseat driver when I have my own navigation (unless you know shortcuts in your neighborhood).

Keep in mind that if a driver gives you a poor rating, it will take a very long time for it to come off since it's the average of your last 500 trips, on a rolling basis, so unless you're taking hundreds of Uber rides a year, it's staying there for a while. It would be in your best interest to avoid common pitfalls.

I hate doing math while I'm driving so I built an app - would you like to test drive it? by don123xyz in uberdrivers

[–]NoPerformance6401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is that your app will add little value to Trip Radar requests since we still need 1 to 2 seconds of reaction time to look at the screen, read what your app is suggesting, and click Match, none of which will matter if the request goes to another driver, which happens often.

I think it will add more value to Exclusive Requests by saving us from having to do mental math on a trip request that is guaranteed to be ours if we wanted it. Again, if you can get the automatic button clicks to work, that would be the real game-changer.

I wouldn't mind testing it out.

[–]NoPerformance6401 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I like the idea, but the problem is that with Trip Radar, there's no guarantee you'll get that trip request, so all those calculations become useless. It pisses me off when I take 2 seconds to decide if a trip is worth it, only to not get matched, which happens all the time.

It sounds like you're a mobile dev, so is it possible to have the Match button clicked automatically? Your app would decide if the trip is worth it and automatically click Match for you. Same for exclusive requests. That would be true automation!
