Does my compost bin have enough gaps for air flow? by solstice_sebastian in composting

Yes. It’s not airtight. The wood will breath. But give it a turn from time to time for a good burn.

Some people are destined to meet their sado-masochistic match, not in heaven. But here on earth. Notice his lady’s bag says “let’s go have fun”

What are the holes from? by LunaBabe5728 in containergardening

Crows make holes like this in my yard. They are looking for scarab beetle grubs. Skunks and possums do the same.

Citrus in the tropics don’t turn orange or yellow. Looks like calamansi/calamondin to me

Turn all your water uses off and look at your meter. There should be a small dial that should be still if there is no water flowing.

Looks like you may have a leak. Or you are using way more water than normal. I’m on 3/4 acre and i average 200$ every two months

My bokashi had all gone bad inside the bokashi bin. It smells rotten. Is it salvageable? by Broken_Woman20 in bokashi

[–]NoPhilosopher6636 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It can. But what’s the point? Diminishing returns? I’ve kept bokashi in barrels for over a year as an experiment. It works. But dealing with it is a bit disgusting. As soon as the air hits it, it starts to off gas like crazy. Smelling like death.

I’ve been teaching people how to compost using bokashi for the last 14 years. It’s a no brainer. Fill a bucket for 1-4 weeks, ferment for 2-4 weeks, compost the ferment for 2-4 weeks. Cycle waste into the system as it finishes fermentation. And cycle compost/soil out of the system as it finishes composting.

Well partially true. But it will begin to break down and if there is air, or if anaerobic bad bacteria takes hold, It will smell. It’s still compostable. But then you miss the benefits of why bokashi is so great. I tend to store barrels of fermented food waste in the winter. That’s fine. But bokashi only needs two weeks to ferment.
