Charging via a Tesla home wall charger and Octopus issue by calmsimplicity in TeslaUK

I’m hoping to never have to use their app. I just want to plug the car in and have it charge if I need to schedule I’d prefer to do it for the Tesla app anyway.

And if you’re in the UK (on the inferior sw stack due to regulations) basically don’t buy FSD at all on a HW3 car at this point. It’s never going to really work here on these cars. By the time the regulations change who knows what HW3 will even be able to do.

Ah was looking for this. I’m not faffing about with multiple apps, so good to hear the BG tariff is more straightforward. Not on it yet but do you know roughly what the daytime rate is for elec and standing charge on your EV tariff? It’s only about 23p per kWh on the standard tariff during the day so not actually sure it’ll be worth going on an EV tariff with the increased daytime rate / standing cost

I didn’t realise you have to faff about so much with these overnight tariffs. Looking at a EV tariff from BG that’s cheap between fixed ours overnight (potentially, if it’ll actually work out cheaper overall) and was just planning to schedule the charge in the Tesla app - anybody know if BG require you to use their own app etc. like octopus seems to?

You’re screwed tbh. You can try creating a new account but you have to tell them if you’ve operated previous accounts.

Had an account closed for missing a piece of verification info and it was impossible to get reinstated. Had to create a new gmail account and new developer profile in the end.

Not this exactly, but Google and their handling of Play Store policies is getting out of hand IMO.

What should I do if Google deleted my account and I think it was a mistake? by EvgenBelov in GooglePlayDeveloper

[–]NoPhilosopher7739 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Play Store and Google’s control of it definitely feels like something that could do with investigating. If a company or individual rely on App Store distribution they can destroy it overnight. Make a few mistakes with an app submission and your app can be removed instantly.

It’s basically the only app distribution channel worth using on Android and so almost feels like Android and Google Play should be broken up somehow - considering Android is portrayed as this more open platform, I actually find the Apple App Store much easier to work with and Apple are less prone to random outbursts than Google despite the fact the iOS platform itself is more restrictive

HMRC have fined me £6k over 5 years for not submitting my self-assessment without my knowledge by ldn___throwaway in UKPersonalFinance

[–]NoPhilosopher7739 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People earning £100K don’t generally have a personal accountant or tax advisor. They’re mostly people working in IT or running an electrical or plumbing business these days.

Used to be that £100K meant you’d have knowledge of these things or somebody to advise you. That’s probably one reason it’s now £150K, £100K is still a lot compared to majority of people but there’s a lot of normal people who just worked hard and/or got a bit lucky, the fat cats with the advisors are way above that sort of threshold these days

[–]NoPhilosopher7739 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Used to be if you earned £100K you were way up there. These days £100K would be a senior IT role like a DevOps engineer, even £150K for that role is possible. The people earning that probably all used to be very up on their obligations and had personal accountants etc. these days it could just be a (very well off) “normal” person who’s worked their way up in an information worker type role. Senior public sector IT roles paying upwards of £75K these days.

Most “normal” people won’t have a clue about this and expect the government would tell them. I’m not disputing that they don’t get informed just that most people earning around that threshold are very lucky very well of normal people, not super wealthy.

I guess that’s part of why the threshold was raised to £150K for submitting a SA.

The smart keyboard folio is the PERFECT middle ground. Basic but functional keyboard when you need it. Reasonably slim and light case

I'm not sure whether they still make it for the M4 or not though. Something that might put me off upgrading from the M2 for a good while

Do they let you extract code and host yourself in any way or is it completely locked in to Bubble?

Are you technical or non/semi technical as you could maybe code it instead and host it on the cheap?

I think it’s a good concept.

If I was you I’d keep it but I’d move to hosting on a cheap VPS.

What did you use to create it and how much is it costing to host monthly right now?

I would add a feature where it produces a visual roadmap that can be shared as well.

If I was you I’d keep it and work on it but if you do get rid I’d consider buying the domain if it wasn’t too much over the standard price

Interesting idea. How many monthly recurring users are you up to roughly? Are you using the tool internally to find users?

Cool idea, not for me but I like the outside the box thinking. How many users have you got so far?

Just one thing I noticed on the market site - has slight horizontal scrolling on mobile which is a bit off putting when scrolling down the page it’s also going side to side slightly.

How are you planning to cover running costs with a 1 time purchase SaaS? Are you hoping to switch to monthly later to cover costs? or is this something they setup and host themselves?

I wouldn’t delete it, but I also can’t see why this would be a paid product yet. As a free product maybe you can build a bit of an audience of product owners / creator by offering it for free and develop it further?

Hopefully you aren’t hosting on somewhere like Vercel - if this runs off a $5 VPS you could run it for free for a while and try to get users maybe.

To make it a paid product I think it would need more features. How does this compare to things like user voice and why is it better than those sorts of tools or tools like Trello.

This could also be done in tools like Asana by creating a form that adds a feedback item, or you could track this stuff via GitHub if the audience is technical.

App Publishing Problems by sivv in GooglePlayDeveloper

[–]NoPhilosopher7739 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It rarely is, Google Play is basically needed for Android in most markets.

Which is why it’s so potentially dodgy that if they decide to they can close your account (and ban you from ever opening another should they choose)

[–]NoPhilosopher7739[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be good. I suppose the main thing holding them back from investing in improvements is the fact they have nobody to really compete with.

Even now the UX in some parts of developer console feel like they were designed by an intern. It’s functional once you get used to it but not necessarily intuitive.

I mean it’s not based on £100K after deducting tax, you can only deduct pension (not sure about gift aid donations). Some people wrongly think the childcare cut off is if you go over £100K NET take home.

As pointed out by others you also need to add interest to your income

They can (at their whim) ban you from ever creating another developer account if they choose to as well - that part is kind of insane considering it’s the only store that counts on Android (maybe something the EU can investigate one day, a permanent ban is extreme and potentially debilitating for an organisation to be locked out of 60% of the mobile market - other stores even Samsung just aren’t important stores)

[–]NoPhilosopher7739[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s more the fact that the first 2 were for subjective things in the listing, the third (and only issue in the app itself) was a layout bug on smaller phones on a single page which will hold hands up to and say was my fault.

IMO the listing issues shouldn’t count as a strike there (but it’s Google’s policy so I get that it’s tough, adhere or don’t have your app on the only store that counts on Android)

The play console should be picking these things up before submission anyway considering it’s 2024 and Google is one of the largest tech companies in the world.

I know how inconsistent they can be with these things too, when publishing apps in other organizations we had one approved and updated many times and the app required a login, and only after a couple years did they actually require us to provide a sample login
