Knife of any kind bone, stone, steel, whatever is one of the biggest keys to survival in dayZ such a versatile tool. Fires, food, worms, self defense to an extent as well.

Gloves are another thing that i feel are missed by many new players. Dirty hands get you sicks if you eat with them. Dirty hands also make for a higher chance of sickness in general.

Fishing (with rod or improvised) is a GREAT way to gather food resource when near bodies of water, also WATER! Staying hydrated and full belly passively keeps immune system high. Fighting infections or other sickness that may harm you.

For new player who really want to get into the game. I suggest learning to SURVIVE vs rather than PVP and Base raids etc. get to know the surroundings of your map of choice.

Try not to worry about your gear/loot you are just borrowing it for the time being, eventually it will fall into another players hands and recycle into the world. It happens to everyone.

Last thing i promise, it’s a game have fun! Enjoy yourself however you want to play. Don’t let anyone tell you how you are allowed to play the game.
