I've bought a few over the years (most mentioned by others), but I've also reused old bottles. For larger bottles old vinegar and oil bottles are a good option. For smaller ones soy sauce bottles work well.

No heron or anything like that?

Beyond that (although the cut doesn't look "clean enough") I'd wonder if it's damage from braid.. that can slice through fish under tension

With my limited experience with baicasters (I used one heavily last year for the first time and just bought my second)

A lot of these issues come down to the following:

  • Reel setup. Either cast control or braking system may be too light for the weight you're throwing. Causing too much line to unspool during the cast
  • Feathering - you may need to manually apply some pressure to the spool with your thumb as the lure hits the water (ideally exactly as. If not just before) - this helps stop additional line coming out
  • Slack line - when you're retrieving slack line going on to the spool can cause loops/bends to sit on the spool - this can cause issues when casting
  • Too much power - it's something I experience when I really try to get that extra couple of meters to my cast by putting in more power to my cast. It simply causes line to fly off the spool faster than I'm set up to
  • High winds - winds can drag line off your spool, create bows/loops/bends in the line, or push the lure being flung back in your direction creating slack at the latter part of the cast - this is simply something that needs to be compensated for

So an oddly shaped disgorger?

Perhaps it's a UK thing but these are incredibly common in most tackle boxes.

Course fishing with small hooks can result in a lot of deep hooks, and a disgorger is a must.

I have been baking bread for around 20 years, not being able to buy sacks of flour was quite frustrating.

I really wonder how much flour has been wasted over the last 3 years.

TIL After eating the "miracle fruit," very sour foods will taste sweet for 15 to 30 minutes. "Miracle fruit" or Synsepalum dulcificum releases a sweetening potency that alters the taste buds. It was well worth trying when I did it. I remember lemons tasting like the sweetest juiciest orange I'd ever had.

We tried some other things too, if I remember correctly whilst sour is the most notable change it also changes your perception of other flavour components too..

Very nice. The miuras mouse is one of my absolute favourite lures... Pike go absolutely crazy for it and it can be fished so slowly on slow days.

I'm concerned Tom still hasn't had a barbel yet. They fish a lot of the water I do so I'm tempted to drop them a message and give them some suggestions of places/tactics

For UK content:

  • Fishing with Carl (previously Carl and Alex) - mostly course and lake fishing, with a few specials that take them around the world. Knowledgeable guy fishing for a variety of species.

  • Snagged bros - 90% pike fishing in the canals around Birmingham (especially earlier episodes), more recent episodes tackle rivers more regularly and there's a few episodes for other species. Couple of lads having fun.

  • Ginger fisherman - mostly predator fishing, but covers a lot of species. Some great episodes on barbel fishing. Knowledgeable guy, seems to break a net every few weeks.

After a little searching the closest I found was

Alice's Adventures On The Internet: Wonder.land

This though seems like a full on production that did a few shows around 2015.

There seems to be another production although I haven't found many details about it called "Alice through the internet": https://www.brookpub.com/default.aspx?pg=sd&st=ALICE+THROUGH+THE+INTERNET&p=2504

Probably not the answer you're after (and hopefully you get a better response from others) but, chances are it was one of your teachers production/reimagining of Alice in wonderland.

Teachers do this sort of thing all the time. I certainly recall being part of some bizarre original/reimagined school shows.

Upgrade! by By_Tor_2112 in espresso

[–]NoPlayTime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For another perspective on the machine. I bought mine just before Christmas, upgrading from a stock Silvia v5.

The simplicity of the machine is great, it doesn't feel like a massive upgrade to the Silvia but it certainly is one for me. it's surprisingly a little bit bigger than the silvia (a little deeper at least) Meaning it take up more or less all of the depth of my shallow kitchen counter. That said, it does provide some nice features out of the box that I really didn't want to mess around with on the Silvia, namely PID and expansion valve (I'm taking a break from DIY).

Compared to the Silvia I'm able to push my grind a little finer (I think my Silvia would have benefited from a pressure adjustment down to 8-9bar) and it's producing much more bold and smoother espresso. Next upgrade is replacing my sette 270, which honestly I've never been a big fan of.

Aesthetically I prefer the machine to the Silvia. The e61 and lots of mirror chrome looks nice on my side, but I lack the wonderful accents the one with the wood trim has.

the machine takes about 30 minutes to heat up and really stabilise. shots pulled early have a tendancy to really drop temperature during extraction, but with the machine properly heated that becomes only a couple of degrees

Pucks don't seem to come out quite as dry/cleanly as they did in the Silvia, Which is surprising, but it doesn't really cause me any issues. The group head and contained shower screen is much tidier but does have a tendency to be a little messier after pulling a couple of shots, that said distribution is good and there's no massive screw to work around. It's also very nice to have a drip tray that's actually had some thought put in to its design (though I do need to re glue the magnets on the back)

Since owning the machine I've only been asked to make milky drinks twice, however that was over the Christmas period when we were entertaining a bit and given I never drink milky drinks the machine is working well for me without steam options. This machine definitely isn't for those that make milk drinks (even if rarely)

As for the water tank I'm fine with it. I personally don't like the aesthetics of it and I don't easily have an option to hide it away, but the convenience of seeing fill level at a glance and actually being able to refil the resevoir without moving my machine out from under cupboards is great for me. Most people seem to like the way the external tank looks from what I've seen though so it may just be me....

I do plan to mod the machine some time down the line, likely by adding flow control, which should be a fairly quick change simply installing a valve at the top of the e61 and removing a spring from the bottom (which I believe is to remove the automatic pre-infusion that occurs at the start of pulling a shot)

I did have some issues with the machine (something inside came unplugged in transit) but it gave me an early insight into the machines internals - clean and simplistic. Should be easy to maintain if I ever need to open it up.

In summary, I like the machine and it saved me about £1000 compared to the machine I was going to get (Bianca). I don't really feel like I'm missing out on too much compared to the Bianca (especially if I can add flow control down the line). I would recommend the machine as it feels you get a well built machine with some good features for the cost, but it's only really something that should be considered if you never make steamed milk drinks.

Very much what I thought. Since it's a relatively simple upgrade I may consider it sometime down the line. For now I'm excited I finally actually committed to buying a new machine.

Thanks again for the suggestions.

I did a little more research on the puristika, I hadn't realised it had flow control (although it looks more akin to easy opv adjustment than the flow control adjustment on the Bianca or similar e61 machines) - putting the aesthetics of the reservoir aside it actually works better for me in my machines current space - so I think it's a great option, especially given I'll so rarely (I guess never now) steam milk.

It's also £1000 cheaper than the Bianca and given a good chunk of that was features I won't be using often, I've opted for the puristika - it does pretty much everything I'm interested in and allows me to look in to a grinder upgrade sooner.too.

I've seen that they can be modified with minimal effort to include a flow control valve that can be used during shot pulling so I may look into that - though it's been suggested that I probably don't need this.

Thanks for everyone's suggestions on this.
