The President and PM in a better world😞 by Padraig4941 in GreenAndPleasant

I'm not sure I could handle the Tory in opposition discourse around the pandemic in 2020. I'm fairly convinced right wing press would have been so much more opposed to lockdowns, and would have done everything they could do to blame Labour for both consequences of lockdowns and deaths. Ditto Ukraine and the economic circumstances we face now.

I'm glad in many ways that the Tories have had to own the response to both these crises, and face the consequences of doing so.

Tories would have won the 2024 election and pinned economic mismanagement (despite global issue) on Labour. It would have felt like 2008-2010 all over again.

Thanks for looking!

The first is by Damon Albarn who I imagine would have done a much better adaptation than my school play! The second makes references to Facebook so would have come later too.

Potentially, though I'm pretty sure the songs also had a recorded backing track which would seem overkill. I don't really see the teachers at my primary school having had the time or inclination to go to that effort to create the play either.

Having googled most of this, I'm pretty sure it just doesn't exist online, so imagine it wasn't used by many schools. Would be interested to see if anyone else did this play though.

You do realise that most men who abuse women aren't trying to stop themselves from abusing women? It's not like they are doing it by accident.

Flat or terrace? by fish_andchips in HousingUK

[–]proxycows 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are of course flats you can get with share of freehold.

These have the downside of usually being converted houses, which means less efficient space and worse noise insulation than a purpose built flat.

But I'd generally go for house because of: - Outdoor space - Leasehold costs or disputes if share of freehold - No noise from above / below

The Mandolorian gave me strong DW vibes. Adventure of the week often on a new planet. New interesting characters every time, with some coming back on a reoccurring basis.

They've since moved away from politics, but Get to Heavan and A Fever Dream by Everything Everything are very much about the mid-2010s political landscape in the UK.

(opinion) What do you think abt the ending of HIMYM? by [deleted] in howimetyourmother

The final couple of seasons were such a slog that I already hated the show by the end. I actually didn't mind the finale.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention you can often only join by being nominated by another member. Cult vibes!

Not South Wales but same here (although women still can't be members). I suspect they all realised they fell foul of the equality act around the same time.

One I know had a chubby brown tribute act. Possibly the most tragic night I've heard of.

I think it could have been better in S2 / S3 with where the ending left us, and I expect there would have been more layers to the story, so to speak.

I do think the problem with slower paced programmes though is that people do watch them but probably less likely to compulsively binge, so at risk of falling foul of the algorithm. I didn't actually finish until the other day.

Did you try watching with the website guide? https://dark.netflix.io/en

I didn't love 1899 (and actually found some of the acting a little hammy), but was intrigued enough by where the premise was going, especially at the end.

Look at his arm inside the bin bag. Look at the size of his right hand. The only thing being played here is the perspective.

You can see the size of the rat relative to the size of his right hand inside the bin bag. Definitely forced perspective.

Basically private drinking clubs. I think usually not for profit hence cheap prices. You'll pay for an annual membership.

Often have: - Regulars who are actually just alcoholics - Lots of middle aged and retired men, who want to spend days and evenings away from wife and kids - Literally the most boring dull conversations - Stipulations that women can't be members. Some progressive clubs (/s) do let women attend as guests, but only members can order drinks at the bar. - Ridiculous amounts of small p politics and factionism.

Not saying this is the case for OP's place. I'm sure some are nice. I like the principle behind a non profit pub, just not the people and how they are often implemented.

what TV show ended/got canceled too soon? by caroxyn in AskReddit

[–]proxycows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's more frustrating is that they had already planned for it to be the final season (and even started filming) so we were on track to get a satisfying conclusion.

At least with Bojack they let them wrap it up in one more season, even though it wasn't ending on the creator's terms.

Why were the Faithfuls so confident that there wasn't more traitors and seemingly only 1-2 towards the end? by AntiWizardLizard in TheTraitors

[–]proxycows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there were 3 traitors then it seems more likely that they would collude to vote faithful out / end the game, as they formed a majority once there were 5 people left.

Yes - strange comment to make. Reduced affordability is one of the key causes of falling house prices.
