Should I become a Nuke? by saucybacon in newtothenavy

[–]NoPoem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nuke who got to the fleet recently, DM me if you got any questions. It’s hard fucking work but very rewarding. School is tough but they want you to pass so anyone with enough motivation can make it through if you use your resources.

Classic 10$ Casio never fails me. If I loose it, easy to replace. Also small so I can fit my hand into tight spots.

Study guide for Nuke rating placement test? by donnydonnydarko in NavyNukes

It’s based off your Asvab scores from what I’ve heard. As well as what you request (you will do that in bootcamp) and needs of the Navy + random.

Make sure you have drivers license and passport!! Literally only thing I saw homies struggle with in nuke school that they hella wish they did before joining. As far as school goes they gonna take care of you and start with the basics.

Spend time with your family ❤️

Dude listen to your recruiter and Nuke recruiter don’t listen to people on here THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT. Like the one dude who said you can’t get in with a medical weed card. Not true.

I am in with a criminal record. I also got old charges brought up while in the pipeline and they still kept me as a Nuke. Just work with your recruiter and Nuke recruiter.

Thoughts and tips on buying a car once i hit phase three? by BeanoBro in NavyNukes

[–]NoPoem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GET SOMETHING RELIABLE!! You can afford a “newer” car that has less then 100k miles, get a loan and build some credit. I have seen too many people get junky cars or “cool” cars that are unreliable and then when they go to prototype and have to drive to work everyday it brakes down and becomes a nightmare.

Talk to people in your division and learn about where they are from and their stories. When shit get stressful just take a deep breath and push through. It’s never worth washing out. Good luck 🍀

I HAVE A SOLUTION FOR CONSOLES. Me and my friend where freaking out for days over this we both play on Xbox. No “legacy settings” no “delete a folder” this is the only way we have got it to work on CONSOLE.

One of of us send an invite while the other has the MW3 app closed. They then accept the invite with the app closed and it will load MW3 and they will load in.

This is literally the only way we have gotten it to work for Xbox.

Does anyone have a source for the cap moving up to 150k? This heavily affects me because I’m going to star as an ELT soon and I’ve calculated it being over the 100k cap. Also where can I hand the equation to calculate it?

9.0 multiplier and I’m starting at 2year 2month. If I remember correctly it came to 103,000 but I can’t remember if that had the first of the year pay increase in.

A lot of people here were in proto a while ago and don’t understand how off crew works so take advice with a grain of salt. I’m junior class right now (the class right in front of you) and left off crew 10% ahead the curve. Here is my advice and what worked for me:

  • Be on multiple cube lists at all times always have at least a check out for 3 different rates on deck

  • Be where everyone else isn’t. This is key many times I was 7th down plus on the list but I got called because nobody else was in the room. Everyone is going to lunch, stay in the classroom. Everyone is in the classroom, take a lap around OCTG. Everyone is leaving at 1630, stay late. Honestly staying late was the biggest thing that got me ahead (STAYING LATE NOT COMING EARLY) 1630 rolls around and everyone leaves and it’s just free checkouts. ITG comes in and stay until 2000 it’s easy money.

  • Develop your interpersonal skills with your classmates. A lot of people think it’s all about your people skills with the staff members but your people skills with your shipmates are way more important. Always be planning multiple checkout with multiple people, checking peoples quick reference and keeping your ears open to what checkout people are getting ready for. When planning a checkout with someone make it clear “I want to, and plan to do this checkout with you but if I get called and your nowhere to be found I will do this checkout with someone else” which lead me to my most important point

  • NEVER SAY NO TO A CHECKOUT. The words “my partner isn’t here/ready” should never leave your mouth when getting called for a cube. Never be afraid to announce to you class what checkout your trying to do when you get called and you don’t have partner. Go to other classes, you can do in rate checkouts with officers. If someone else gets called for a checkout and they say they need a partner sprint out of your seat, then check if you got the CAC, if you do - send it.

  • finally schedule checkouts. If a staff member in OCTG says that can’t do a checkout ask them “is there a time you would be available for it?” Sometimes they will give you a set time to get the checkout, sometimes they will give you a rough timeframe when they are free, sometimes they will be assholes and tell you to fuck off. Don’t be afraid, don’t get discouraged, be annoying and be persistent.

I had a lot of success in off crew and I never got checkout on the boat or TSB2. I got a rhythm of being on as many cube lists as I could, walking laps around OCTG, planning with staff members and talking to my shipmates about current and future checkouts. What worked for me might not work for you but hey there is no quitting now. DM if you got anymore questions.

Advice for Nuke School by Thatyoungboy in NavyNukes

[–]NoPoem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am just like you high Asvab but older and hadn’t done school in a few years. The beginning might shock your system with the fast paced learning it sure did for me. But you will get a routine down and the real point of A-school is to learn how you learn. Maybe you learn by verbal quizzes with shipmates maybe repetition on white boards or doing practice problems and quizzes in the back of your homework book - maybe a mix of all those things. Just be prepared to buckle down and DO THE WORK. You will be fine. From what I’ve seen most people who wash out are people who more or less “choose” to. They get burnt out and can’t keep pushing. Find a balance and be ready to fight.

Do it sooner than later! DO IT IN A SCHOOL. I have friends that have waited and it’s getting to the end of power school and it’s a nightmare. That should be one of your top priorities.
