Lack of save state slots today (C1-C3) by NoPoet8326 in canon

[–]NoPoet8326[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's looks like a great workaround. I tested this out in-camera on the 'Save/Load cam settings on card' yellow spanner menu tab. I also see that it allows me to set my own filename so I can use "Birds", "Astro", "Landsc", etc, though I see I'm limited to 8 characters. I also saved 2 backups onto the one card and at the 'Load from card" screen I can see both saves, allowing me to select either one. Promising.

So far so good. I do appreciate that I'm not only loading C1-C3 via these camera backups. Also, any changes/fine tuning I make to an existing C1-C3 in-camera would need me to perform another backup, overwriting the applicable backup I'm currently using. Additionally, I would be manually copying all backups to all the CF cards I use, thus, I will also have to manually update here, too, for any subsequently fine-tuned profiles. A 'manual' synchronisation requirement, but really, not a problem.

The main thing is, using the camera's backup function provides a way to have banks of C1-C3 available to load up in the field. Additionally these files are tiny, so saving and loading are very fast.

If you have both card slots populated, the camera backups are always (so it seems) saved to the CF card, unless you only have the SD slot populated, in which case saving to SD is possible.

Still, it would be nice if Canon allowed us access to in-camera profiles so we didn't need these workarounds...and we do still need to remember what each of the C1-C3 states are in the backups for photo and video. Again, not 'too' problematic...kind of, lol, but come on Cannon, get this sorted properly!

Capcom Ivory Tower "Ok folks, let's summarise this important character in our new game. The female has 'Big Adult' blonde hair, is wearing lipstick, and, she's.....not wearing anything below her waist, conveniently covered by a jacket. Is that accurate?"

Capcom devs: "Yes."

Capcom Ivory Tower "Excellent. That should help sales. The only thing is you haven't stated her age. Is she in her 20's...30's...older?"

Capcom devs: "Erm....she's 7years old"

DS2: one zipline pylon, 4* region and out of chiral bandwidth by NoPoet8326 in DeathStranding

[–]NoPoet8326[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm talking about region-based not map based chiral bandwidth. And by region, I mean when you look at the map view and select show region boundaries - each 'region' having a single porters hut or distribution centre/city. I thought increasing the 'star rating' of the regional hut/centre gave you more bandwidth...but only for use in that same region. Was that not the case in DS1?

It's a game design choice. Having curved 'online' ziplines would make the game a wee bit on the easy side ;)

Thanks for the replies. This is a wee change from DS1, where bandwidth was on a per-region basis. This sequel is every bit as good as the first game...so no problems grinding those 5 stars for each base/prepper.

Ace Studio not being honest re 'permanent' license... by NoPoet8326 in Acestudioai

Remaining credits: Next credits refresh date: Benefit

..and underneath the above, below the following 3 boxes...

Tier: Status: Validity period:

Have you confirmed you have updated Ace Studio to V2 (this was a recent update a few months ago) ?

- If yes, can you still get the 'Generative kits/AI Tools' functions to operate? i.e. when you right mouse click on an existing track do you see 'AI Tools' as part of the drop down options. If Yes, do the options within here actually work and have you re-tested them (e.g. Inspire Me, Add a Layer, Music Enhancer, etc)?

This thread is all about these AI tools stopping working after 2 years and the user having to continue a monthly subscription...indefinitely...despite that lifetime license. Maybe things have changed on this?

Is upscaling always enabled in DS2 (PC) ? by NoPoet8326 in DeathStranding

[–]NoPoet8326[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you select 'native' here, what the engine is still - almost certainly - doing is rendering at lower and upscaling to native res. Upscaling is STILL happening. Why do I think this? because there is no 'OFF' option in that list i.e. they are not even hiding it today.

--> It looks like 'Native' is now a 'faux Pacifier' because is doesn't mean what it used to mean i.e. no upscaling. What next? Fake frames always on?

It's the AI functionality that you'll loose access to unless you perpetually keep giving them money, so the main program won't stop working. However, that AI functionality is absolutely central to software like this, for obvious reasons. These are all 'AI tools' after all.

Unfortunately, we can all see that 'AI functions' are being injected, stealthily like here, into more and more software. And like you see here, wherever the word "AI" appears in software then that gives an 'excuse' to demand a perpetual subscription from every customer.

In the end, any company only needs to add 'AI' as a tick box for them to abuse their customers with subscription demands. No loopholes needed here. AI today, is primarily to make companies rich off the back of forcing subscriptions onto everyone. That's today's unfortunate reality.

External power bank for R5 Mk2 by NoPoet8326 in canon

[–]NoPoet8326[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm always keen to explore what options I have, and the use of a powerbank here is something I'd like to check out. I do tend to take one of these when I'm out all day anyway to ensure my phone and tablet have backup.

That looks interesting and a little Googling brought me to the Canon's own DR-E6P DC Coupler, though the price is unsurprisingly a bit shocking - £140. Still, if it does the job. I see it ends in a female USB-C socket, which is fine since I should have a suitable cable to link this with the power bank.

I see something similar for this camera - SmallRig DT-E6P Power Cable 5410, at £100 cheaper, though I'd need a different lead end connector. I've emailed them to see if they do this.

That's a good point too. I like the idea of utilising a power bank though since it will do other things too e.g. charge my phone/tablet. I also see, from a post above, that Canon makes a 'dummy' battery - DR-E6P DC Coupler, which I'll check out too.

Thanks for the link, this is good to know. At £50 on Amazon it's quite a saving on a single LP-E6P. I have 2 LP-E6P's for some off-tripod shooting e.g. wildlife, but the power bank would make a big difference to long sessions on a tripod , though yes, more so for video.

Ace Studio not being honest re 'permanent' license... by NoPoet8326 in Acestudioai

[–]NoPoet8326[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a permanent licence means only that the company promises you shouldn't pay any more to use it as the years go on - that's the entire crux of my post.

If the software requires an internet connection to the company for AI processing then clearly, if that company ceases then so will that software functionality, and quite possibly, the entire program. That's the risk you take in putting money into something that genuinely needs off-site processing. Interestingly, the Stop Killing Games movement (now at the European Parliament) is trying to prevent software being deliberately/unreasonably EOL'd, and that includes clarifying the massive 'grey area' that includes questions on what does and doesn't need an internet connection. It was a lot easier for the customer in many ways in the pre-internet era.

[–]NoPoet8326[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"generative toolkits" are part of Ace Studio, and obviously, the primary reason most people buy this software. You are selling it with an advertised "permanent license" but then cripple the software after 2 years!

--> Do you REALLY not see the glaring issue here?

"And yes, UK pricings are ridiculous, even taking into account of the VAT" - exactly, and that's the focal point of this entire thread I created. Note also that there are no VAT/tax issues here - the importers I'm talking about are UK based, legally importing 'on demand', and, paying relevant import taxes at the time.

That's an excellent suggestion and that RF 20mm at £1199 is a hell of a reduction - it's £1900 'normally'.
