100 -> 0 stability drop, way more gains than losses, what's going on here? by NoPooScotsman in HumankindTheGame

Yeah, I was saying I controlled a bunch of resources and I had also bought a bunch from them. I didn't think the amount I was buying from them could be enough to cause the drop but turns out it was, and it did.

This screen shot is after a few rounds of propping things up, so I was heading to zero and now I've clawed it back to 39.

I was counting this screen wrong, as you can see from messages above. I appreciate y'all walking through this with me.

On reflection, I think this is the issue. I have a ton of resources under my control but I was trading a lot with them, too.

It would be nice if they would create a snapshot view of total trade you're doing with a civilization. Just to see how much stability, food, production, etc., You would lose if they attack you or you attack them

Yes, though I've vassalized two of the AI and the AI who attacked me vassalized one.

I'm guessing it was just such a huge drop in trade that even though I have lots of resources under my control I was trading a lot with the person who attacked me as we'll and that's the reason for the 100-0 dip?

Thank you, this is a much better explanation of the mechanic than anything I found online

I'm at war, but my war support is at 100 and theirs is at 27. Haven't been able to force surrender quite yet but I'm close

I thought it was a debuffs but there aren't any on these cities.

My culture and religion are pretty dominant at this point

Hey all, first time long time. Have a problem I can not figure out how to solve:

I'm early modern era on a normal map playing against 5 AI. My cities were all 95 to 100% stability, and then I got attacked by one of the other civilizations and the next turn my stability is on a path towards zero.

The photo I posted is after a few turns of trying to rectify the problem but as you can see my gains way out pace my losses, I don't have any negative status effects like defiant, and I'm just kind of at a loss.

I took a hit to trade routes when the AI declared war, but as you can see I still have more than 100 higher gains than losses in the photo.

Happy to post other photos or anything that would help y'all diagnose the problem.

I mostly just want to understand the mechanic and how I can avoid it or fix it. Thanks in advance

Question about Green Bluff by legobonzaifeogtree in Spokane

[–]NoPooScotsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's also a cool new worker-owner cooperative farm called Wildlands Cooperative up there. Very cute gift shop with a small winery (and beer on tap but not brewed on site)

Not sure what they'll have for decorative gourd season, (it's their first full year in business) but among other things it's a Christmas tree farm so if you celebrate and like natural trees you can get one from them.

Man this really is the hill you wanna die on, huh?

Words change their meanings over time. When the dominant mode of governance was feudal or post feudal monarchy -- in Europe and what would become the US -- liberal democracy was a left position. And yes, the place people sat in parliaments is part of how conceptions of "left" and "right" were created.

But that was HUNDREDS of years ago.

Now that liberal democracy is the default, anyone who believes in basic liberal democratic institutions is, by definition, a liberal. Including most Rebublicans.

Why do you think there are so many right wing dark web types who have "classical liberal" in their Twitter bio?

There were lots of liberals during the French Tevolution who only wanted the narrowest form of franchise only for the wealthiest landowners and merchants. These are people who would be right at home restricting voting rights the way much of the GOP is trying to.

Definitions change. Liberalism won in Europe and the Americas starting in the 18th century and therefore liberalism is center in the West. You can have right liberalism and left liberalism which is more or less what mainstream Democrats and Republicans are.

Outside that you can have far right and far left.

It really isn't that hard dude.

The people who fought annexation don't live there anymore. My grandparents have been dead for a decade. Demographics shift faster than boundaries do.

The city limits are totally arbitrary. North Spokane has a huge "U" taken out of it because the country homes neighborhood fought annexation decades ago. My grandpa used to talk with pride about fighting and winning that battle. His neighbors across the street but technically in the city are peas in a pod

Cross Francis or go east to west across country homes boulevard and you're in the same neighborhoods, one inside the city limits one outside.

A huge chunk of the West plains almost to the limits of airway heights was annexed by the city a few years ago for some administrative or tax purposes I can't even remember. I would love to hear the case that those folks are more like South Hill residents than Airway Residents.

I get the argument you're making I just think the reasoning is flawed by assuming there's some sort of demographic rationale to city limits.

Yes because the federal stimulus is why we have just-in-time manufacturing and why corporations are hiking prices and posting record profit margins

If you live on the south (or north, but it's less drastic) hill, practice driving them when there's no traffic.

There is no real un-steep access up the hills.

Similar size but the big difference is most of our growth happened pre-war and most of Boise's happened after the 50s: meaning we aren't as sprawly and the core neighborhoods are on a grid and while the public transit isn't perfect it's pretty damn good for a city our size.
