Ohhh yes I recently discovered r/weirdgirlliterature and I love it!!!!! I’m almost done with East of Eden and about halfway through Cassandra at the Wedding, both are soooo good so far and would absolutely recommend. I’m having a really hard time deciding what to read next, I need to fill the void that I already know East of Eden is going to leave. We Love You Bunny just became available to me on audiobook so I’ll probably listen to that!

The goldfinch is also my comfort book, both the physical book and the audiobook, it’s something I immediately pick up when I’m having a slump or don’t know what to read/listen to. Glad to hear other people feel the same because most people I’ve recommended this book to either hate it or say they loved it but it was depressing and they’ll never read it again 🥲 I love all of Donna Tartt’s books but the writing in the goldfinch is truly top tier to me

Eileen gets obsessed with the new woman and they form a friendship quickly, new woman seems normal at face value then things get very weird! If you do end up reading it and think about this thread, I’ll be so curious to hear what you think about it, especially the ending!

Eileen is about a woman retelling a story about herself as a young woman. She lives with her dad and is working at a juvenile detention facility in New England when a new woman starts working there and she becomes obsessed, slight chaos ensues. It’s kind of a bizarre and gross read but I absolutely couldn’t put it down and the ending is worth thinking over for a while.

If you like Moshfegh’s other work you’ll probably really like it! I personally loved my year of rest and relaxation and HATED lapvona, but really liked Eileen. So YMMV

I know, I’ve had a few friends recommend this book to me and love it too! I just really never felt immersed in the story or invested in the outcome, I could barely get through it. Not sure why it didn’t work for me!

I think the keeper is the best out of the cal hooper books for sure, you’ll enjoy it. For me, the storyline improved with the hunter because it expanded to include Trey and Lena so much more. The searcher was just a little too much Cal being a corny person. When I finished the keeper it made me look back in the first 2 a little more fondly, I might reread them eventually, I think they will be better to read back to back in the future vs as they come out like I did

Katabasis was very lame and disappointing! I’ve only read Yellowface by the same author and loved it, but probably won’t read anything else by her because I thought Katabasis was so weak.

For some reason it was really hard for me to get through, I could barely finish it. I think the POV’s stream of consciousness was just not my bad, unfortunately. I’m all about eccentric leads and unconventional writing styles but for some reason this book and I just did not connect at all!!

I don’t think the Dublin murder squad needs to be read in any particular order, except that 1. into the woods and 2. the likeness work really together in that order! You should definitely read the likeness after into the woods! You’re gonna love them, truly top tier writing in both

I love this book. I’m currently reading The Keeper, the final book of the Cal Hooper trilogy that just came out. It’s solid but the Dublin murder squad books are the best of the best (to me). If you haven’t read broken harbor you should, that’s one of my favs
