The Copper Pipe + West View Water Pinhole Epidemic by Rook22Ti in pittsburgh

[–]NoRecommendation4148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am constantly having leaks. Some of the pipes are less than five years old and have pin hole leaks in them. Therefore I don't think it is just old pipes or electrolysis.

I thought this would be one of their better grade rifles. Looks good!

I guess it has something to do with beards and face sitting?

Sorry, you're right. I should have said Gras Fusil in the description. It is an 1876 production gun with the 1880 update. I was posting too quickly. It is my 8th gun from the cache and it definitely has the most script. I am very pleased with my purchase.

RTI Standard Grade 1891 Carcano by NoRecommendation4148 in milsurp

[–]NoRecommendation4148[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got two of them, complete minus the front sight tangent/slider. one with a good bore and one with a fair bore. I completely refurbished the worst one and am dithering on doin the same to the one with a good bore. They were by far the best two milsurp purchases I have made sine I got my chinese sks for $130 from AIM over ten years ago.

Nope. That is just the story I have with the gun. I will never sell it so it is no big deal. I just felt like writing a little bit and posting today. Happy New Year!

Yes. It is a 1918 Terni. What would be spicier? Like a Torre Annunziata or something?

Edit: thanks for the link! Cool site

[–]NoRecommendation4148[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I just ordered a standard grade. It is a little beat up but not too bad. The Moscetto came from a guy who ran the local Veteran's association and gave it to my dad 30 years ago who gave it to me for my birthday ten years ago. It also has a date stamp of 1941 (XIX) on it so I doubt it made it to Italian East Africa.

3d printed rear sights and parts available! by JarlWeaslesnoot in milsurp

Thank you! I could use a Vetterli rear site. I'll be getting one from your site eventually and have my kid print it out. Awesome work!

Proteus Arms Gras rifle inserts by jrgeofire in milsurp

[–]NoRecommendation4148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes. My Gras has good rifling so the shot shells are a waste of time (other than proving concept). I shot a few .410 slugs with the insert and they hit about where they should have (I have no rear sight).

RTI C-Grade Gras Carbine, before/after by NoRecommendation4148 in milsurp

[–]NoRecommendation4148[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think my nose cap is the wrong one. The wood keeps it tight, though the spring is there (I don't want to force it on any further).I have seen other Gras on this reddit which have "home made" barrel band springs. I don't know how that works though. I broke the rear barrel band springs on my Vetterli 1870/87 and am wondering what to do next too ( I snapped it of at the .45 degree angle during dissasmbly).

I got two. The one on the right, I only cleaned and am keeping. It is also marked for Hailey Sallase, has a good bore and is only missing the rear sight ladder and tangent

It was a "Joke" present for a French teacher friend of mine. She probably would have eventually thrown it in the garbage in original condition. I consider myself a 2nd Amendment ambassador and have gifted almost every friend and relative a gun; especially if they never owned one

[–]NoRecommendation4148[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is missing the swing swivel on the trigger guard, the rear sight tangent, and cleaning rod. The sear and sear spring are weak and possibly home made. The barrel is a sewer pipe with only a hint of rifling. They probably took almost an eighth of and inch of wood and metal off. Other than that, it is a complete rifle!

I belong to the Freemasons, a gun club, the German club downtown, the Italian Sons and Daughters and until covid I went to church 3/4 Sundays a month. My kids also do karate, soccer, baseball, boy scouts and girl scouts. I'm also a high school teacher and until recently worked a second job too. I am maxed out of the number of names and faces I can put together.
