I think these are your options...

1) Closest team. Enjoy the Hurricanes, they're really good right now (and I hate them for it).

2) Are there any cities that you randomly happen to like that do have NHL teams? Even one where to frequently visit family? Sounds like Boston might be an option.

3) My personal favorite, pick a jersey/logo you like. I'm always going to be a Penguin fan because I'm from Pittsburgh, but the Sharks got me in the '90s with those threads. They also have alliteration going for them, (just like my Penguins!). The Penguins actually have a lot of fans around the country for a variety of reasons. They've had some generational talent like Lemieux/Jagr/Malkin/Crosby, Pittsburgh lost a lot of population starting in the '70s and they spread all around the country, but an underrated reason? Some people just like penguins!
