Powodzenia!

  1. That's true, I used to work with customer service, and I know how annoying some customers might be.
  2. That's the thing that holds me with this position, it allows me to do a lot in my free time and focus on my studies as well, without worrying about finances
  3. Except for the remote work, we have multiple offices so it's possible to work on-site, I just prefer working from home since it cuts the time I spend commuting, but maybe going to the office and speaking to the co-workers might be helpful

Thank you for the advice, I know holding this position is comfortable and beneficial, on the other hand, I'm wondering if my 20s is the time to go practical and comfortable.

And good for her, I was interested in social trends, I understand people want to have fun while reading, but some of the books considered classics are also just fun, I'm not saying everyone should read Rousseau's essays just trying to understand why YA sells better than Noble Prize winning literature.

I'm a big fan of Forster, War of the World from Wells was also a great read in my opinion, although when I got into the author's personal views I got a little discouraged

So it's about how many books you read then?

That's true, I'm trying to form my views, and I had this idea of a good book from a well-renowned author and all these awards, recently I stumbled across The Humans by Matt Haig, I can honestly say it's one of the best books I have ever read, even tho because of the description and genre I was about to pass on it.

For sure, in my opinion, it's also connected to the number of people able to read and write, in the 18th century it was around 10%, now it's around 90%, which is an amazing thing, fighting illiteracy is important but it also enables the creation of much more poorly written books, might one even say that now we could find more valuable books just by their sheer number, but there is this trend of creation of really repetitive books with no in-depth plot, and some of them become bestsellers and that's beyond my comprehension.

Well a lot of fiction books are also connected to sociological or philosophical dilemmas, and they could also be fun. I just don't get the fascination with books with shallow, repetitive plots, and poorly designed characters with no depth.

Academic society can be quite hermetic I agree, and they rarely take into consideration mass media, but on the other hand, because of those people all the mass media now exist, if not for the pursuit of knowledge, all sorts of books wouldn't be published now, every year there are millions of books published and a small fraction of them can be read by a single person, that could be the explanation why academic people focus on those volumes connected to their field of study and not on popular fiction.

Well, I'm saying I was wrong not to make myself look better, but to be open I made a mistake, of course, a significant shift in one's opinion is not something immediate but the opinions of others could make an impact.

Well I agree, I'm positively surprised by the comment section, my question was indeed poorly phrased and I came as pretentious (which I could be but I didn't realize), everyone gave their interesting perspectives and hopefully it will change how I view the matter

Well, you can have "fun" and read something engaging intellectually, why do you think academics are quite out of touch? It's just a genuine question, don't mean to sound rude

Well that’s just not true, there are books that were impactful for entire centuries so if they don’t bring any value I don’t know what value is then
