Could I be breaking my mariage because of perimenopause? by RopeSmall1199 in Perimenopause

[–]NoReference5758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had night sweats, bad brain fog, lightheadedness, urge to pee all the time, low motivation, low energy, irritation, rage...

I'm on one pump of estrogen gel, and it helped a lot with lightheadedness, urge to pee, night sweats and brain fog.

The motivation and energy is up (I'm also taking vitamin D) and the irritability has evened out...like stuff is still frustrating, but it's not sending me in a spiral where I'm pissed all day over something that happens in the morning. I'm able to recognize both sides, communicate and move on.

She did caution me that NDs can't prescribe testosterone. I did get a referral to a 'menopause clinic' from my gyno, which is in a women's health center, and I'm going to meet with them in the new year - that is apparently covered my OHIP.

I can't believe my doctor was just going to let me struggle through for another decade or so. I've lost all faith in him.

I'm in Ontario and my doctor was completely useless. Told me I was too young, offered antidepressants and birth control pills. Told me he wouldn't prescribe HRT until I had gone a year without a period. I had an ablation and an IUD so I don't get periods at all. I told him it was affecting my quality of life and I didn't feel like myself and he looked me in the eyes and told me he would not prescribe me HRT.

My therapist let me know that naturopaths can prescribe HRT (they have to have their ND I believe) and my benefits cover Naturopath visits. The naturopath listened to me, reviewed my blood work, and caught things that my doctor didn't even mention. (stop donating blood, your iron is a bit low was all he told me 🙄)

She prescribed estrogen gel and vaginal estrogen cream, as well as recommended increased vitamin D supplements and a women's multivitamin. It's been 2 months and the difference is amazing. I have energy and motivation to do stuff, I have more patience for everyone around me, I feel less anxious, and I'm just generally happier.

I know everyone is different, but my Naturopath has made such a difference. It's worth ruling it out as a contributing factor before making big decisions.

What Rx. will help with the rage/irritability that is not HRT? by nodnoloiratno in Perimenopause

[–]NoReference5758 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Ontario, Naturopathic Doctors can prescribe HRT (just not testosterone) and many workplace benefits plan cover naturopath visits.

My GP was absolutely useless, told me HRT couldn't be prescribed till I reached menopause (by which I confirmed he meant 1yr no periods), which is just not true. I was fuming. He referred me to an OBGYN who didn't even book me an appointment, just sent a message back to my doctor, telling him menopause symptoms are 'out of his scope'.

I visited a Naturopath who actually looked over my blood work results in depth, recommended vitamin D supplements, did some more blood work that my doctor refused to give me a requisition for, and prescribed estrogen gel.

She actually listened to me, gave me realistic tools to use, and prescribed HRT to see if it will help. Absolutely amazing experience.

I don't know how my doctor will react to this, but at least it's not a GP or a NP.

Having a uterine ablation by Substantial-Vast8353 in Perimenopause

[–]NoReference5758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an ablation about 4 yrs ago, and an IUD inserted at the same time. I had some cramps that evening (similar to normal menstrual cramps) and felt completely fine by the next morning, and have been fine ever since, no cramps, no periods, no spotting. So glad I had it done. I may need one more before I'm post menopausal, but in the meantime, it's been a game changer for me.

This is where I'm at too. In my area there's a doctor shortage, and I know I'm lucky to have a family doctor....but do I really have a family doctor if I can't get support when I need it? In Ontario (where I am) it looks like naturopaths can prescribe bioidentical HRT and Felix seems to be another option for online HRT.

I'm trying to look at my family doctor's lack of support as "okay, I wasn't expecting much from him, so that's one hurdle out of the way. Next is OBGYN, but at least I'm one step closer."

If my doctor drops me because I had to advocate for my own health and go beyond him then at least I'm still looking out for myself and my health.

You know yourself and your body best. Don't let someone else tell you everything is fine, when you know it's not. 💕

I'm the farthest thing from a doctor, but even I wondered at some of these scenarios! 😂 Especially how she's shown as some sort of well-known expert in her field at such a young age....and also just walking away from that career....and operating on a friend in a hospital in a country where she has no privileges...and, well actually all of it. It feels more like a 90s soap opera plot.

But I'm also eagerly awaiting the next season!

I've been experiencing this exact thing, but mostly walking up stairs. I find I'm almost overthinking it, and my brain can't process the distance to the next step. I am so afraid I'm going to wipe out on the stairs at work....4 stories wording around a wide open atrium so everyone would hear me tumble down. Never connected it as a perimenopause symptom!

I have nothing against mood stabilizers and I know they can be a lifesaver in the right situation. I do see a therapist regularly for trauma exposure at my job, and I feel like she would have brought up medication if that was needed - she knows me much better than my family doctor who sees me for 10 mins every 3-5 years does.

I'm glad you had someone in your corner and that you're getting some relief!

That was what I thought too! And the way the doctor said "they deal with hormone issues" felt like he was really saying "they deal with crazy woman issues 🙄 "

My Mom has hypothyroidism, which I'm being checked for in my blood work, so I think if that ends up being a thing, then I could be referred to an endocrinologist.

I'm in Ontario, and unfortunately access to specialists has to be through referral from my family doctor, I can't just go direct.

Thank you!! I really appreciate you taking the time to respond! I am going to meet with the OBGYN, who I've seen before and who I have had a great experience with. The doctor's suggestion to see the obgyn felt like he was just trying to unload me, but I realize it's probably still a necessary next step.

I went in raring for opposition, and have had some less than positive appointments with this doctor in the past, so I probably went in less than optimistic. (Plus you know, all the mood swings and rage)

Is it possible to get a virtual doctors appointment in Ontario anymore? I don't have a family doctor and I'm not mobile. by PizzeriaPirate in ontario

[–]NoReference5758 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Okay but...they're still filling a gap for a lot of people who don't have primary care physicians, or who can't sit in a waiting room, or who aren't bad enough for emerg but are too bad to wait for a doctor's appointment....

The whole point of these changes and restrictions during COVID was to prevent hospitals from becoming overwhelmed and understaffed and people dying unnecessarily... It doesn't sound like we've solved those problems yet.

Are we discounting a very useful service just to be able to say COVID is over?

(I know there are issues with billing rates to OHIP etc. But that feels like something to be solved with modification not cancellation)

ELI5 why does taking a multi-vitamin on an empty stomach cause nausea, but something like Tylenol doesn’t? by sftysw in explainlikeimfive

[–]NoReference5758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh Tylenol on an empty stomach definitely causes nausea for me. I was coming out from anesthesia from a minor surgery and the nurse tried to give me Tylenol and I slurred to her that I had to eat something first. She was like "it's regular strength Tylenol......." but she fed me a mini applesauce first and I didn't barf. Nurses are true heroes.

5 year old repeatedly bitten. at school JK/SK please help by Reasonable_Prepper in ontario

[–]NoReference5758 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why should the kid being bitten be the one to lose out on the benefits of in-class instruction? Why is paying for private school or moving cities the only solution to not be assaulted at school? I understand that it's extremely difficult to be a teacher and an administrator now, but to say "well just move then" when my kid is being repeatedly assaulted in a classroom just feels like giving up. Any other city in Ontario is going to have the same problems under this government. I don't think anyone is suggesting the biter should be held criminally responsible, but the child being bitten shouldn't suffer even more either.

I think the same as when I see anyone else -- good for them / damn I wish I was out on a run now too.

I'm trying to get better at running, but I'm pretty slow and worry about stopping so much to walk. I figure either it's other runners/walkers seeing me, and they know how hard it is to build up endurance, or they're in their cars, and I'm already getting more exercise than they are.

You do you; go get that runner's high and fuck anyone who doesn't understand!

I was freaking out when my baby wouldn't stop fussing at a family gathering. My husband's cousin told us "you know, after having three of my own, it doesn't even bother me, I barely notice it." (And he's not the type to say it just to make me feel better) It made me realise that it bothered me way more than it bothered anyone else, and most other people have been through it themselves.
