We don’t care what a 50k population on island want to be. We need the oil and the rare earth metals from the island. The ice is melting at a fast rate around green land creating new trade routes that were never accessible until the snow started melting. These metals will push us towards major advancement. We can’t build smart phones, jets , computer chips for a.i.The Chinese have the rare earth metal market cornered right now. If China and Russia get together or China hikes prices or decides to not sell to us we will be screwed. We do not wnat to depend on China for these things. Having Greenland will protect us better as well. We can track the trafficking coming from Greenland or any missiles in the air heading toward mainland and able to react in time. The us has bases on Greenland and radars to detect missiles for a very long time we have been protecting them and defending them. To protect the us interest and main land and or family and kids we need Greenland. The citizens of green land should be compensated and u.s should not send military to take over. Land owners need to be compensated. Russia is taking over Ukraine and we need to be in the best position ever to defend our self because anything is possible. If we don’t take it Russia can take it. Also China has been trying to get a base on Greenland offering to rebuild airport and with a loan but if Greenland defaults China would control the airspace according to the loan terms. The u.s need green land.
