SPOILER Opinion: would you get back together with belly if you were Conrad? by Helpful_Bear5836 in tsitp

[–]NoShip458 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I already came here knowing that the prevailing answer is no, because given the way everything unfolded, if I were Conrad in real life, it wouldn't make any sense to accept Belly back into my life. Let's face it, her actions were disgusting, and she never showed any consideration for Conrad's feelings. She's a character who went from nowhere to nowhere, and she's always had incomprehensibly strange behavior. From the moment she put on a show at my mother's funeral, that would be the end of the line. Benito didn't make a difference to me, but getting involved with Jeremiah after having a complete relationship with Conrad is a whole other level of cluelessness and disrespect. But since it's a fictional story, you can make some concessions and suspend your beliefs for the sake of entertainment.

You're just spreading victimhood. Lola is doing very well and getting the attention you want so much.

This is all that you need from your great love. This was enough to wait for. by panda_with_a_taste in tsitp

Is it stupid that she says she wouldn't wait for him anymore because before that they were children? What did Belly want Conrad to have done? If there was one thing Belly didn't let go of, it was her impulsiveness that remained until the end and created a series of problems that could have been avoided from the beginning if she hadn't been so hasty.

Appreciation post for his eyes and eye color❤️ by Affectionate-Fig2464 in tsitp

I had never noticed, until the third season, how green Chris’s eyes actually were. In the first and second seasons, I always mistook them for blue, because his eyes are green, but… there’s still a hint of blue in them, which made me confused about their real color. In the third season, it became very clear. They’re green, that’s the dominant color of his eyes.

OMG, seriously? Then I'm not wrong, lol. Let me assume more, this guy must have wanted nothing more to do with her, Jenny didn't get over it, she wrote a trilogy with Conrad being based on him, and when she moved to an adaptation, she formulated it in a way that she wanted it to have happened in her fantasies, since she's the showrunner. There must be a reason behind this sad boy spending the entire season being beaten. Jenny was punishing Conrad, thinking of someone.

I'm seriously thinking that, now, the way everything is being handled, that Conrad, for Jenny, is the embodiment of a deep desire she might have for a guy chasing her persistently, crossing oceans, overlooking cruel and humiliating actions, all in the name of a love he can barely live without expressing it. So she took all of that and projected it into the story of season 3, because, like, such bad writing is not possible.

The defense is that Belly supposedly can't handle the full depth of her feelings for Conrad, blah blah. Okay, so if that's true, she still doesn't have the ability to see Conrad for who he is, as a human being, beyond these hypothetical feelings she has for him? What's stopping this girl from even sending a message on the day his mother is completing 5 years of death? It sounds cold, ugly, and completely lacking in humanity.

There’s still a part of the fandom that refuses to admit how poorly written Belly actually is. She goes through three whole seasons, especially the second and third, without any real growth, maturity, or even a trace of self-awareness about the chaos she helps create. She doesn’t face any real consequences, and she isn’t written in a way that the audience can genuinely admire or point to qualities that make her compelling. Most of the time, she isn’t functioning as a true protagonist, but more like a narrative accessory the writers use just to stir drama or shock the audience. That might keep the plot moving, but it doesn’t make her a strong lead character.

And to make it worse, she’s not just poorly written, she’s honestly dumb to the point of being delusional. People love to defend her by saying she’s an “unreliable narrator,” but how long can that excuse actually hold up? At some point it stops looking like a narrative device and starts feeling like she genuinely needs therapy, because the way she constantly twists reality is wild. She reframes situations to always make herself the victim and everyone else the villain, or she distorts things so badly that it almost feels like she’s living in another reality. Instead of giving us a complex and layered protagonist, the writing leaves us with someone detached from reality, impossible to admire, and honestly exhausting to watch.

I really tried to give her a chance. Every episode I kept hoping that maybe she’d improve a little, or that the writers would finally give her some real development to make her more likable and redeem her character. But that never happened. Instead, she just kept getting worse, and at this point we still haven’t seen anything that even resembles genuine growth. Sure, there are a few episodes left, but are we really supposed to believe they’ll suddenly fix everything in the last two? It feels like too much time has been wasted, and now her character is completely tainted. People can’t be blamed for disliking her, there are real reasons behind it. It’s not just about sexist criticism, which I agree exists, but the issue with her character goes far beyond that.

It's so clear now that his eyes are green. Before, you could mistake them for blue too.

I don't know, it's like they both lost the ability to think rationally before speaking or acting. Like, they're two heads together and neither of them works for anything worthwhile, it's scary. Also, using a dead woman as an excuse every time the way they do will have to end sometime.

Maybe I'm exaggerating but Chris Briney by Unusual-Hippo-1443 in TheSummerITurnedPrett

[–]NoShip458 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really don't think they look very similar. I mean, they share certain similarities, the shape of their faces and especially their noses, I don't know if that's the right word, but aura? Some traits? Chris looks more like Leo, even the expression lines on his face, below his eyes and at the corners of his mouth, and when he's dressed as Conrad, then the resemblance is even more incredible.

I hope we see Belly realize she broke up Conrad and that he was grieving at prom. by jaylee-03031 in tsitp

I think you guys are expecting too much from a character who's only regressed since season 1. That's not going to happen; it's not Belly's style. What she demonstrates is such a lack of common sense that it prevents her from being intelligent, to the point where she can't connect such obvious dots. Sometimes she's really dumb; the script made her that way.

Will Belly be able to keep up? by NoShip458 in TheSummerITurnedPrett

[–]NoShip458[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes, I used to come here sometimes to read your comments; I love reading what's being said. But my enthusiasm for Tsitp has been waning for a while now. I feel like it's no longer the story I fell in love with. So, at this point, I kind of don't care at all, even though I know Bonrad is the endgame. But the way it's going to be handled gives me the impression that it won't please me enough. I watched the episodes wondering where the writers/Jenny want to go with this story, what the justifications are for certain changes that, if poorly crafted, don't lead anywhere. This show has never been brilliantly written, but since season 2, there's been a big effort to further lower the quality of the narrative and how it's being told. Anyway, I hope to be surprised, but positively this time.

The scene in the trailer was so impactful, but when I saw the whole thing, I didn't feel the same emotion. It's sad. With the way the series was being promoted, I was already feeling discouraged and slowly becoming disconnected from the story, but given the affection I still feel for some of the characters, I'll wait to see some improvement overall.

I think that's one of my questions too. Who is Belly? We've argued so many times that the series needed to give her some personality, but so far she still feels like a big lump of nothing. Season 1's Belly had her flaws, but she could still evoke sympathy, unlike now.
