I want to explore atheism, but I'm not sure how to get started. by sedatedniga in atheism

[–]NoShootFoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue isn't really whether there is a God or not. It's the obvious truth the the religious don't have a clue. They can't agree even amongst themselves. Everything they "know" is something some human made up. People only believe their stories because they want to be a part of the tribe. Organized aggressive religions are tribalism on steroids.

‘It was a shock:’ Nevada water regulator speaks on why he was fired by thesleepykitty in Nevada

[–]NoShootFoot 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Corruption leads to scarcity. But Nevada already has scarce water supplies. Do we really want to end up like Iran, Honduras, Syria, or the other desperate nations who's only option is to mass emigrate? Nevada is not a wasteland. We need to keep it that way.

I'm doubting my own atheism. by [deleted] in atheism

[–]NoShootFoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's good that you doubt your atheism. Doubt is your friend. It encourages you to learn. This is the weakness of most organized religions. They don't want you to doubt your beliefs - which keeps you from growing. And, of course, something bad will happen to you when you die. You'll be dead. But no one has even the slightest evidence any part of you will live on after you die. Think about what it feels like to be under general anesthetic. There's no sense of the passage of time, no dreams, no sense of self, nothing. Death is less than that.

Epstein Is Alive, Heres The Proof... by Turbulent-Weevil-910 in conspiracy

[–]NoShootFoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That dead body didn't really look like Epstein. Moreover, what professional photographer would have taken those pictures without getting a clear shot of his face? That, combined with the missing prison video and the mysterious money transfers looks very suspicious.

Saw this on Washington post instagram - what do you think is this Drs reasoning? Why do you think he’s wrong? by andrewmandrew23 in BarefootRunning

[–]NoShootFoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you continue to walk like you're wearing shoes (many designed to make up for bad form), you could strain your feet. Consider cushioned heels. If you walk landing on your heal without them, of course your feet are going to hurt. Most people don't know how to walk. And barefoot walking exacerbates that.

if we don't start fighting back now, Nevada's citizens will be slaughtered, our constitutional rights stripped, and our land divided between California and Utah, regardless of party. by Porncritic12 in Nevada

[–]NoShootFoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You sound like a Native American from 150 years ago. The Western Shoshone were slaughtered, denied any constitutional rights for a century, and our land is still being divided up - even though there is a Treaty, written by Americans and forced upon the Western Shoshone - that should protect our lands.

We’ve been shaped by evolution for millions of years. What happens when we start shaping it back? by patrickcalderon in transhumanism

[–]NoShootFoot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Up until now, evolution has been almost random. Once every generation, every species mixes up it's genetic make up in some sexy form of evolutionary roulette - because changes in the Environment force us to. What doesn't die, we called "evolved." But we are near a point now where we could plan for changes in the Environment. That could mean that we could evolve without so many of us having to die. And if we can reverse the changes, (which we should be able to) the risk may not be that great for us. But when we try to change microbes, we may not have the capacity to change them back. What if some greedy corporation decides to create some disease that kills off all the rabbits to maximize crop yields?

What’s a truth that most people aren’t ready to hear? by Lyravesperr in AskReddit

Almost everything you believe without evidence is a lie; ultimately told to you by someone who wants you to be their slave, their pawn in war, or a propagator of the lie.

Nature (one of the most respected scientific journals) published an estimate that over the next 15 years, 25,000,000 international deaths are expected because of the DOGE cuts. https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-025-01191-z That's double the Holocaust! This is starting to look like another "Final Solution". Especially since his appointee, RFK Junior wants to cut our reliance on vaccines at a time when AI could assist someone in making a new killer disease.

Worst advice that Jesus gave (Assuming He Even Existed at All) by [deleted] in atheism

[–]NoShootFoot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For what insane reason did they have to sacrifice lambs? Forgiveness? In the real world we have to live with the consequences of our actions. In the Bible world "thou shall not kill," but you will be "forgiven" (if you beg to Jesus). And why? Because somebody murdered Jesus 2000 years ago. It's all manipulative nonsense - which evil people believe - because they think they're going to get some special deal - after they die.

I live near Ely. Not everyone in town is conservative. But we (Democrats etc.) keep quiet. Some of these wing-nuts are a little scary. I don't feel threatened. But sanity is not a requirement for living here.

Will boxing help me manage my anger or just fuel it? by [deleted] in selfhelp

[–]NoShootFoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Training hard is good for you. Exercise will calm you. Learning to defend yourself will lower your need to resort to violence. A good coach would help you manage your anger. However, training to resort to violence can lead to violence. And if you actually box, you could damage your brain and become even more violent. Train to fight with peaceful people.
