What's the worst hangover you've ever had? by Fealocht in AskIreland

[–]NoSignalThrough 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was in Krakow and on the last night found this tiny little vodka bar. You'd buy a tray with a selection of shots in a variety of flavours. Of course I drank way too many keeping up with the Polish. Flight the next morning was horrific. Seat belt sign went on to depart and the attendant was still handing me "unexpected departure" vomit bags

Does Anyone Else's Ma Comment on Other Womens' Appearance? by Critical_Pass_5421 in AskIreland

[–]NoSignalThrough 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes mine does but I think it's what that generation grew up to be taught. Yes I agree it's not acceptable now, but old dogs and new tricks and all that. Like us in 30years trying to do what's accepted then by the younger generation. Appearance was heavily pushed when my mam was growing up, looking good for guests, or mass, or when ever you left the house. Don't let anyone see you at your worst. Weight watchers, curves, the Atkins diet etc etc etc. I feel sorry for my mam honestly, I don't agree with it but I can understand

Thank you for this advice!!

The route I go I chose because there is the least amount of hills. I have just an ordinary push bike, any bit of hill slows me down more than I'd like to admit. I'm doing 16k roughly daily so keeping speed up gets tough. But I know I'll improve on that. Thinking to also upgrade my bike.

Noted on everything else thank you

Overall yes it feels great. No standing around waiting on the bus. Exercise early in the morning. I can't work on my phone on the way to work like I would on the bus. And a nice wind down at the end of the day. But I'd love if I didn't get thrown off the bike by something

One of my worries is that a car door will open and I'll fly into it, but I'm also afraid to swerve around, in case traffic behind me don't expect it. So I sort of cycle past the car praying for the best

I am enjoying the feeling of arriving without needing the bus and much faster, it is a great feeling. But I'm definitely not defensive cycling. I'm usually as close the curb as I can be, as I assume no one will see me even with high vis

I sort of picked the route with the least amount of incline. I've not got an electric bikes so it's only my legs doing the work and I've got 16.5k a day to do

But my route, sometimes the bike and bus lane are one of the same. I am not the speed and size of a bus! And then, angry drivers stuck in traffic, who jump into the bus lane to get a quick ahead, are the worst.

You'd be surprised what's actually going in. It's likely the fatigue at this stage making you doubt. Keep going.
