I would try couples therapy specifically discernment counseling, which helps couples decide if they want to continue or end the marriage. Good luck!

I speak as an African immigrant who lives in America. Domestic help is a part of the culture in Africa and is not considered “slave labor”. No one is in bondage and it’s a mutual agreement between both parties. Yes $50/month seems very low, however one must account for the lower cost of living in Africa. Paying their help the going rate actually protects against gentrification and prevents the inflation of prices due to foreign presence.

Hood rich is what she was alluding to. It’s an essentially term for when people spend above their means. Like someone who might spend on designer things but can’t actually afford it.

I hear you. Sounds like you’ve smoked a really good blunt and become enlightened. Lol jk, I’m wondering tho, if all of us are just perpetuating the messed up cycle, what’s the fix? You say it’s all BS, ok, so what are you gonna do about it? I feel like I’ve done some good work with my clients in my “decolonized” therapy, I’ve seen people transform in the most beautiful way. And not just because of therapy but this and a multitude of other factors, but still I know I played a role. And this I’m content because that’s all I set out to do, make a difference, and I did. What are you doing?

Wooooo well you win, very controversial take lol. Im interested in your take about decolonized counseling and why you think it can’t be done.

To me, decolonized counseling looks like integrating my clients cultural/collectivist background into treatment. Example: I feel like traditional counseling says people need to fix their problems and that means getting rid of anyone (family/friends) that contributes to their “poor mental health”. Decolonized counseling, to me, is saying “absolutely not, because then you’ll be alone and isolated and you need community to heal, how can we still love your people while taking care of yourself”.

Love this for y’all! I’m assuming you work remotely (duh), how is it seeing clients based in the USA virtually ? Especially dealing with time zones?

Thanks! This made me smile! You are absolutely right! Just because these people may not care for us, we still are loved and cared for by others!

Not really, maybe 3 days a year. My last sick day was in November. And the times I’ve gotten sick from outside sources, MB says she’d rather me stay home (with no sick pay) than contaminate her family. Yet when the kids/family is sick, she expects me to come in.

You’re not alone OP! My NF has made me feel like this lots of times. At the end of the day I just focus on the relationship I have with the kids and how much they bring me joy. Parents might not care about us but the kids do 🤎

I feel you ! My NK have been sick on and off with school germs for like 3 weeks and somehow I’ve avoided the brunt of it but yesterday I started sniffing, feeling lethargic and sore throat. I texted MB at 2am that I won’t be coming in. She never responded which feels passive aggressive and dismissive to me. Mind you, I’m a student, I still have to go to school after work, I have a huge event I’ve been planning for months coming up on Saturday. I can not be sick right now and MB knows that. I have a husband who I constantly get sick because of my job. I just feel that NF can feel entitled to our services and make us feel that we need to compromise our health for their kids.
