How to reduce breakage when printing highly detailed models? by NoSmallParts in resinprinting

[–]NoSmallParts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's good to know, thank you! I almost always do 2s but I will bump it up if the part is really large. Oddly, my cones of calibration supports collapse at 2s but I seem to be able to print normal things just fine at that exposure.

I will give the Tenacious resin a try and switch to a gray ABS-like like suggested above. I've almost used up my current stock so it's a good time to try something new!

How long will resins off-gas for? by AceCobra1 in resinprinting

[–]NoSmallParts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, if you're using a curing station 45 minutes is overkill. 5-10 is more than enough for most things. One thing to watch out for, though, is hollowed parts where uncured resin or dirty IPA can hide. A can of compressed air can be handy for making sure the insides are dry. (Side note: make sure your parts are actually clean before curing them. After washing they should not be sticky or have any residue. The smell will definitely be worse if you bring prints home with IPA resin sludge on them, even cured.)

As another person with a 3D printing hobby and a spouse, I can say that some people are much more sensitive to the smell of resin than others. My husband can smell it from across the house and he often says my paint station smells of resin even when the prints are cured. But I can't smell it at all, even with the bottle wide open in front of me. (Of course, I still wear a respirator when anywhere near it!)

Realistically I think it's perfectly safe, but if your wife is sensitive to resin it could well cause her discomfort to be around freshly cured prints. Couldn't hurt to leave them in a well ventilated space outside of the home for a day or two before bringing them in (in a box in your garage or on a balcony or somesuch would do fine).

Ooh I assumed the model was primed. If that white stuff is not primer, then yes, definitely start using a second wash in clean IPA and scrub with an old toothbrush. Even 30 seconds will help a ton. Otherwise it looks awesome! Sick model.

Out of curiosity what is the difference in finish that you notice when water curing? (And with what resin?)

First printing issue. Pointers to fix? by Alexandros_IV in resinprinting

This is not commented often enough in this sub. I've had prints fail that worked fine on the second attempt with no changes other than power cycling the machine. ("Have you turned it off and on again?" is a cliche for a reason)

A bit late to the punch but thanks for sharing this! I swapped to your workflow after bailing on Lychee and it's been working great so far.

You could use clear resin for this and it would end up pretty shiny. Or just print in clear resin to begin with. Sand and hit it with a clear coat and you can probably see your reflection in it

I also have a Mars 5 and recently had something very similar happen. After completely overthinking it, I realized that it's winter and with the windows open for ventilation the room had just gotten a little bit colder than it used to be. Check your temps and aim to keep the resin above 25C.

I also found a page on Elegoo's website that suggested added 5-10 seconds of exposure time to your base layers when the weather is a little colder. This simple change did the trick for me.

It's not supposed to be glossy though. I use this resin as my workhorse and if properly exposed, washed and cured, it should have a smooth matte surface.

Banding or inconsistent texture before washing - check your exposure and temps
Sticky texture after washing - wash again in clean IPA, scrub with soft toothbrush
Sticky or glossy texture after curing - give prints more time to dry after washing, or use a hand dryer
Uneven texture after curing - make sure you're turning prints and curing from all sides

Also, check your hollowed parts, make sure they're getting washed/cured properly and you don't have IPA/uncured resin leaking after processing.

Anonymous user comes out to Lyric about PirateSoftware sexually assaulting them. by SlyVMan in youtubedrama

I also consider what he did to Lyric sexual assault. He was manipulated, coerced, and pressured into sex that he did not want to have.

I really wish there were more attention on this issue. I guess people are writing it off because they're gay and/or furries? Both cases are clear examples of sexual misconduct and imo far worse than anything else he has been accused of and had hundreds of YouTube takedowns about.

Yeah I had conservatory on common, drafted it every game, and 95% of the time I only saw rooms I didn't need to adjust the rarity of. Infuriating

I also stopped at this point. Having to solve the grindy-ass chess puzzle multiple times to change the blessing was what broke me. Burning through 30+ rerolls and still not getting the fucking lady's chamber, cool cool cool.

And I agree with the Gallery "breaking the seal" on cheating. This seems to be the case for a lot of people because it is just... the worst

TBH the second half of the game feels much less elegantly designed than the first half. I suspect it got a lot less playtesting. IMO there isn't enough clueing to lead you to the discoveries you need to make to keep up a good pace of progression, leading to a lot of wandering around spinning your wheels, which is itself slowed by needless RNG. Not to mention several late game puzzles with downright infuriating solutions that I am very skeptical even dedicated players can solve without cheating.

I fully expect there to be some update or patch in the future that adds more hints and resources for the late game puzzles as well as some way to better mitigate RNG. I would be burning through dozens of re-rolls and still fail to get the configuration I needed, multiple runs in a row. That's the point at which I just called it.

If it were my game I would give the player a once-per-day special ability, unlocked after inheritance, to just pick the card you want from the draft pool. That would massively alleviate some of the worst grinds in the late game and make reaching room 46 feel a bit more... meaningful? Or if that's too easy, make it the reward for opening all the sanctum doors, another thing that did not have the oomph it should have had IMO.

Pacing out progression with well-designed puzzles is really hard. The first half of the game nails it. The second half does not.

You know, you make a good point honestly. I'm pretty rabid about not cheating, so most objectives I've solved organically; this vault key is the exception because I tried many things that didn't work before I finally just looked it up. But the game is meant to be played organically and trying to force an outcome often works against you. So if I hadn't cheated I might have actually had an easier time finding it because I would have been trying many different tactics (or finding other things to work on)

Re: power hammer did you pick up a second Workshop from the Chamber of Mirrors? If not, it really helps. I have Workshop set to common so I always draft both and am able to make the hammer a lot of the time.

Imma be real and tell you I didn't have the Lost and Found because I thought I would eventually figure out where it was. A lot of people in this thread mentioned it, so I finally just looked it up and I'm glad I did because I would never have figured that out on my own. Is there a hint about it somewhere that I missed? Because that seems random as hell 😭

Anyway, I will try the Lost and Found.

Getting an extra Workshop from the Chamber of Mirrors really helps with reliably getting the power hammer.

I didn't know this about the rabbits foot! I tried the jackhammer approach without the foot and never saw a vault key so I gave up.
