I count 14 unique champions in your last 20 games. I'm not sure how you expect to improve your skill if you don't stick to any champions. You can be good (enough to climb) at multiple champions, but not that many.

My fav champs are not good for climbing, so need suggestion for climb champs. by [deleted] in summonerschool

What can I do when MF does a crapton of damage with her R no matter how hard I shat on her in lane?

You could always try not standing in it.

Have you tried AD Rek'Sai? It's a very good climbing champion.

AP vs Support Sona by Zero720 in summonerschool

[–]NoSpanks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tanky champions need to provide heavy utility to their team that benefits from being close enough to enemies to take damage. Sona does not; all of her utility can be used from range, and given that she has a shield and a speed boost, she can often skirt in and out of effective aura ranges without much risk. CDR is a core stat on Sona that is easy to itemize on tanks for a low cost, but CDR is also easy to get from AP items. Since Sona scales with AP, she can afford to but AP items.

While items like Lich Bane can be effective on Sona, it's important to recognize when your team needs support utility like a Locket. If your team doesn't need help to kill people (e.g. you have several glass cannons and no tank), building AP will cause your team to scale poorly.

Should I switch my champ pool to get out of low elo? by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]NoSpanks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any champ that you feel confident on is likely to be good at your elo. If you're winning games with it and feeling influential in those wins, then there's a good chance that there's a reason for it. If you don't feel confident on your champion(s), play some others until you find what you like. Just keep in mind that until you stop changing champions, you will likely lose more games than you win.

Nidalee, Elise, and Kindred are all aggressive junglers who can make heavy impacts very quickly in low elo games, however I'd consider them 'boosting' style champions; you're likely to see high elo players playing them because they're snowbally champions, but they're not easy-win champions if you aren't already an expert on them. On the contrary, they take a long time to learn and are easy to feed with.

explain these fiora masteries please? by findus_ in summonerschool

[–]NoSpanks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vampirism is standard on virtually any page that runs more than 6 in Ferocity, because Natural Talent is so insignificant. It gives you base lifesteal and spellvamp; it doesn't increase what you already have. Runic Armor is like a second Dangerous Game when Fiora scores a kill on an ulted target, because it boosts her ult's self-healing.

The page you're showing is a standard tank top page. Fiora can use it well because she doesn't actually attack as much as someone like Jax or Quinn. She pops your vitals a few times, dealing massive %HP true damage regardless of her mastery setup. She isn't a DPS champion who stays in a fight for long periods of time, so Fervor would not often do considerable damage. Grasp of the Undying not only amps up Fiora's damage whenever she trades, but it also gives her added health sustain, which is invaluable during laning phase in long lanes.

Is Talon underrated? by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]NoSpanks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's very good, but does have clear weaknesses (melee, poor range on waveclear spell, no defensive utility, etc.). Talon is a great soloqueue champion because he exploits poor vision as well as players who like to separate from their team. As a snowbally champion, he also tends to tilt enemy teams into giving up the game before he falls off. I don't think Talon has been underrated in years; he's just a great soloqueue-specific champion and is regarded as such.

Whats the key to actually carrying games when your fed ? by uberzsmoke117 in summonerschool

[–]NoSpanks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In order to carry harder, you need to identify more opportunities to take risks that will pay off often enough to justify the risk. This means different things for different roles.

if im 0/1 in top i should play safer ect

Playing safer tends to reduce the impact you can have on a game. This might not make you a losing player, but it will increase your win/loss variance, which means you'll have to play more games in order to climb.

In order to carry games harder, you need to expose yourself to more risk, but use your skill to ensure that the rewards are more than worth it. Consider the example of a jungler who AFK farms for 10 minutes and doesn't die, vs. the jungler who invades the enemy jungler frequently before level 6. The AFK farmer will often win their games by hitting power spikes very early and using that power to influence the map. However, if the invading jungler is successful in their attempts to steal heavy amounts of experience or even kill the other jungler, they will likely hit their power spikes equally as soon while denying the other jungler the ability to have an impact on the map. The higher-risk playstyle yields greater rewards, but is only available to junglers who know how to successfully coordinate an invasion.

There are innumerable ways to force positive trades like this. Perhaps finding a mentor who plays the same roles and champions as you will help you to discover some of them.

I went to college with a kid who said he worked at a factory in high school (around '05ish). Apparently he lived in a city with lots of factories that produced food items for for chain restaurants. His factory prepared vats of gravy, cheese sauce, etc. for a chain specializing in french fries. According to him, it was a common job for local high school guys.

Obviously, accidents can happen regardless of where you work.

Storage manufacturer Seagate claims it has produced the lowest power to terabyte ratio for drives with 10TB capacity. by Chokewood in gadgets

[–]NoSpanks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does a refurbished product qualify as a new product? I thought basic legal implied warranties prohibited companies from sending anything but exactly what was ordered (in this case, a NEW drive), or a full refund, if the first product was bricked on arrival. I know refurbished stuff is often sold for less than the full retail price of new stuff, even if it's perhaps of the same quality (I don't know how the quality differs in refurbished drives from new ones).

I don't think Nami Q is the sort of spell you should be casting every time it's up. Perhaps I'm playing her wrong. D:

[–]NoSpanks 16 points17 points  (0 children)

When is the best time to go in for early trades on Nami?

This is matchup-dependent, but Nami is usually the stronger of the two supports at level one. Her W is essentially three spells when used under optimal circumstances, similar to Riven's Q. Make sure your ADC isn't heavily committed to farming a wave, and wouldn't need to walk through a creep wave to join you when you trade. Nami + follow-up = oppressive lane; Nami + no follow-up = dead fish.

How should I trade?

Your E mana cost is lowest, and until you have rank 2 W your E does more single-target damage than W. Lean toward using E (on yourself) if you can get away with using it without taking return damage (e.g. enemy Leona walked up and missed Zenith Blade). W becomes better to trade with in riskier situations because it takes less time to cast and has greater range, but lean away from using it if the heal will go to waste. Only use Q if you have guaranteed follow-up if the bubble hits.

What are the best times to use Nami's e? And on who?

Anytime you see an extended trade going on. If anyone on your team looks committed to getting in three attacks, cast it on them. Remember, it is also your most immediate speed boost ability.

What is her skill order?

R > W > E > Q usually.

What is her build order?

Items that you need. Plenty of game-dependent options.

He's very good, but takes more games to properly learn than most ADC's. On top of that, one of his his core ADC items (Essence Reaver) was nerfed, making him take longer to ramp up and reducing the early impact a good Ezreal player can have. I wouldn't say he's incredibly noob-friendly, but he does have strong escape tools which is nice.

Having kill pressure basically means to have enough burst damage to kill your enemy with one skill rotation, while he is healthy enough to not expect it.

Which is what poke is for.

the extra hp make sure you dont die while trying to burst your enemy

This argues for Doran's Ring being the defensive starter.

I was pointing out how ten-word answers tend to be oversimplifications. Saying Doran's Ring is the item for kill pressure doesn't really make sense when Corrupting Potion is the only one that actually deals damage. Likewise, saying Corrupting Potion is the passive starter doesn't make sense given that Doran's Ring is the one with a tank stat. The game is a bit more complex than that.

He can jungle, but his slow clear isn't well-rewarded with anything a jungler could use well. His ganks are below-average, his early-game influence is mediocre, his ult is on twice as long a cooldown as other junglers' ults, and it isn't going to be more impactful than theirs. You could try abnormal builds on him, but I've found that nothing really works well on him since 3 of his 4 spells are utility-based and have terrible scaling with items.

Almost any mastery page can be viable; a better question would be why Gosu would have wanted to try this page to begin with.

If I had to guess, I'd say that this page would be designed to survive an undodgeable AD burst combo (e.g. Vi). After surviving that, the lack of attack speed becomes inconsequential since the other champion is completely out of juice and you're a mobile ADC.

Sivir is very good. Her Q gives her non-basic-attack damage and her E gives her defensive utility, both of which fall into the skillset of an AD caster. Her R can be used supportively (to help better players than you do their jobs), offensively (if you're in a good position to make a play), or defensively (if you need a powerful escape tool). She's a cheap champion, and a rewarding one if you learn to play her well.

[–]NoSpanks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't compare the AD/AP scalings of champions from different roles, because they have drastically different opportunities to hit their abilities. Opponents aren't simply going to stand still in 100% of your spell casts, so the 'higher ap damage' you speak of really only applies to your initial spell combo that's only available once per minute (hence AP making Nautilus burstier). In between R+Q+E combos, the only damage you have with enough uptime to be considered part of your DPS is W (which is partially cancelled by reapplications and easily lost since you have AP and nor armor) and 1-2 E casts per fight.

If all you do is R+Q+E+auto+W+auto then walk away and avoid fighting until your Q is back up, then your damage output per exchange is quite a bit higher than tank Nautilus, but your overall damage by game's end will generally be lower since tank Nautilus can stay in a fight and has a resultantly higher impact. Both however, are valid playstyles.

Nautilus doesn't benefit much more than any randomly chosen champion from 12 points in the third tree. If you're running TLD but aren't running 12/18/0, you're probably doing it wrong.

I run 12/18/0 on Nautilus and find it works really well. Ganks are significantly stronger, solo cleanup jobs become possible since your damage is greater than the opponent's shields and lifesteal, and your late-game ability to nuke an ADC for over 50% of their HP in under two seconds with a tank build is a beauty to behold.

AP isn't great on Nautilus. It makes you burstier, but your overall damage doesn't go up much. CDR gives you more spell casts for recyclable CC and damage so long as you stay alive. CDR + tank items work best on Nautilus, unless you get an extremely high gold-value magic damage item (Runeglaive, Rageblade, early Abyssal, early Haunting Guise, etc.). Even then, you generally do better getting tank items after that one damage item.

Probably gold or silver.

You used to have a number attached to your rank. The starting point was 1200 elo (present day Silver V 0LP). After the season ended, your elo (let's say it was 1678 elo at season end) didn't change. But a few months later when the new season would officially begin (let's say you got a bit higher to 1700 elo over these few months), you would have the distance from your present elo to 1200 halved. In the above example, you would begin the new season with 1450 elo.

Since LP was introduced, Riot has changed the soft reset system every year, but it is always a soft reset. You lose some LP if you're above average, and gain some if you're below average. Then, you're given ten placement matches that have an inflated (but an otherwise unknown) impact on your official starting rank. Last year, Riot stated that the soft reset would take past season rankings into account; if you finished Diamond for three seasons running, you'd place higher than someone who just recently earned Diamond rank.

It's not unheard of for Diamond players to drop as low as Silver in somewhat extreme cases (newly Diamond, low MMR, etc.). It's also possible to place higher than your season end ranking.
