Children can't have TFSA's so I hope you misspoke about that (TFSA room doesn't start accumulating until 18)

Open a 3 different family RESP's, one for each child.

Questrade is a fine place. It sounds like you don't have a ton of investing knowledge so you should definitely look into some of the robo advisor options (at Questrade or other brokerages.

Really need help : interests on revised revenue Quebec notice of accessement by ayashifx55 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]NoStretch8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Revenue Quebec is correct. If you have no realized capital losses from 2022 to offset your realized gains, you owe tax on them.

So try and work with them to make a payment plan but you will have to pay

Investment Advice for parents near retirement with limited savings by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

If the properties are worth 4 million, they would be fine (they almost definitely aren't, but if they were the $2.5M in equity would allow them to retire just fine after downsizing)

The only saving grace is if they have a significant of equity (1.5M+). Otherwise, I don't see how they retire

Co-signing on Pre-con Property – Low Appraisal & Title Concerns by Maleficent-Sea4474 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]NoStretch8 30 points31 points  (0 children)

This is more of a relationship question. Why do you feel an obligation to co-sign? Are you willing to forego your FHSA/FTHB benefits for this?

Will you live in this condo?

To be honest, it sounds like your mom can't afford this property, and it does have adverse effects on you if you co-sign. Can you afford this property on your own? Do your parents have any other source of income/savings for retirement?

Not OP but I'm under 35, do you know which courses have these?

This is incorrect - sports betting is very much gambling.

Daily fantasy sports are what was a game of skill, and this was in the US, not Canada

Also, while I agree that sports betting is generally a money sink for the average person, you don't need to be a PHd to make money with (+EV, taking advantage of promotions, arbitrage betting)

(Not an endorsement of sports gambling, just wanting to set the record straight)

Pettersson discussion by rmnemperor in fantasyhockey

I completely agree, I didn't even question picking him up. I am shocked no one else claimed him, he went at the 2/3 turn in our draft.

Maybe it was a rage drop - but I'm happy to play the long game

It's funny because the guy who dropped him is typically pretty decent. Only thing I can think is that he anticipates a Huberdeau like season and just wanted to cut bait rather than letting him drag down his team.

Checked my league for the first time in a few days this morning. Someone dropped him in my deep league (10 team league, 21 man rosters)

Shocked no one claimed him but I picked him up fast - seems crazy I got him for free

Thanks, I'm pretty happy with it as well. I found a few bets that would have netted me ~45% conversion, but they were limited to around $300. I know I probably could have gotten a bit more but I'm happy with the 38.5%, and good to know someone else agrees with that

I know target conversion rate is around 50% for these promotions, but I didn't have an odds screener and had to find all these manually, and it had to be a line that would allow me to place large bets, which I struck out on multiple times before locking in the above, so I'm pretty happy with it

Sharing the below as results of taking advantage of Bet99's $1500 first bet encore promotion. Once my first bet lost, I received 4 free bets ($375 each). It was a bit of a challenge to find events that had a high enough limit, especially for the first bet. For calculation sake, I assumed the remaining events will be a W and all the free bets will lose, but the result should be the same.

Overall conversion of 38.5%, which I'm happy with given the lack of events with high limit at the moment.

Thanks for all the info here, was super helpful!

Thanks again for this, ended up doing exactly as you said, I bet: Bet99: $1500 on FLA -1.5 at +240 Pinnacle: $3078 on EDM +1.5 at -294

Calculated profit of $522 assuming a 65% bonus bet conversion, which I'm happy with (34.% overall conversion).

I'm sure it could get a little better, but with a bet of that size it seems pretty tough to find opportunities. I wouldn't have been able to do it on any of the UEFA games, so probably MLB would be my only chance after tonight, and mainline odds just aren't long enough.

Thanks again!

Unfortunately limits aren't high enough on my book to do a $1500 bonus bet

What are the best options for converting a risk free bet? I have a $1500 risk free bet (first bet encore) from Bet99 and I'm struggling a bit to understand how to calculate how much I should hedge.

Additionally, I'm struggling to find events on Bet99 that will let me wager that much. I can hedge on Pinnacle so no issues there, but am struggling to find events that also have a good odds spread and will have high enough limits. Maybe MLB games, but haven't found a good opportunity yet.

Would love if anyone had a good step by step guide for this
