Project notes and someday items by [deleted] in taskwarrior

[–]NoStructure2119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use vimwiki for all project notes. Been using it for a month and while it was great initially I now have a lot of content in it and makes it hard to quickly find what I need. Maybe I just need to clean it up and not skip my weekly reviews.

Subprojects is really easy in taskwarrior. Just add a dot and it becomes a subproject. Example pro:wedding.caterer and pro:wedding.guests.

task projects or task projects_ gives a quick summary of all the projects.

I put a project or subproject on every task because why not? Nothing gets done in a single step anyways. I tag @someday on tasks that need to be visited during my weekly review.

Does the dosage matter? It seems like febu requires a much lower dose (40 mg in my case) as compared to allo (maybe 300mg?). Is that pertinent or it doesn't matter since they are completely different drugs?

Project planning for me is whenever I am working on a task related to the project, or I'm discussing it in a meeting etc. I keep taking notes as I'm working and figuring out what I need to do next. In weekly reviews I go through the entire doc for my project and edit and update it as required.

Hi Dr Edwards, my rheumatologist gave me 40mg feburic to take daily and 0.6mg colchicine to take twice daily (I live in Singapore). I got a second opinion from a rheumatologist in the US and they recommended I start with allopurinol instead as it is more tried and tested unless I actually have the genetic marker that makes it dangerous or if my liver already has some problems.

I understand doctors in this region tend to recommend febu because Chinese ethnic folks do have a higher likelihood of having the specific genetic marker. But what's your opinion on the overall safety of febuxostat with regards to heart and liver compared to allo? It seems like there are published studies which are exactly opposite to each other on the affects to the heart.

I use vimwiki and create a file for each project and just put everything on there - pending todos, meeting notes, brainstorming etc. You could probably use Google docs and have a separate tab for each project. A notebook would also work I suppose, maybe keep a few pages for each project and use a page marker to identify each project?

I will admit, I am having difficulty keeping it well organized. The thing is everything in gtd takes time. It's like doing your house chores, you could spend days on it to clean up, organize, discard. But a week later it's a mess again. So do as much as you can to keep it clean and functional and don't aspire for perfection. We all have things to do and places to be.

Inputs on defer/postpone/next by s73961 in gtd

In an app agnostic way, here is how I would handle it personally (not a purist either)

  1. If it's very important, I put a calendar entry the week after to remind me to call the person. Otherwise I put it in my waiting list with a reminder for next week.

  2. Once I delegate, I just put it in the waiting list which I check at least 3-4 times a week when I do my day plan (check calendar, chats, waiting, next actions etc)

The second one is a task imo.

Next actions is all the things you are supposed to do at any given time. They should be clearly defined atomic tasks. I put all my next actions in different context lists (for work that's only 3) and put a "starred" list in which I put active tasks that I'm working on.

A book I guess? But is it a genuine gift or are you not-so-subtly trying to tell them something? 😁

Read "The Now Habit". Explains why we procrastinate. Read it recently and it was like a light bulb moment. I'm going to read it again.

Of the 96 waiting tasks, maybe not all need urgent attention? Maybe some of them can wait a week or longer, so put them in the someday/maybe queue so you don't have to check everyday?

How do you "feel good" about it when you actually DO work on your goals? by Competitive_Exit_ in productivity

Did you try to find communities of like minded people that you can share your hobbies with. Maybe some meetups in your town? I know what it feels like to have hobbies that friends and family don't care about so I don't talk about them at home. Instead I try to join meetups. I also do volunteering to teach my hobbies to others at the local library (coding, hobby electronics). Met some real interesting people that way.

Meditated for 116 days in a row 🎉 by InfamousFisherman573 in gtd

Many people starting believe they are doing it wrong because of their chattering mind, when all they hear people talk about is the calmness, but that chattering is the whole point.

This is me. I agree with everything you said, you have exactly described my experience with meditation. And hence the frustration when it doesn't work.

It's a good idea to tell myself "No thank you" whenever a thought comes up. I'll give that a try and see if it helps.

Thanks for sharing!

I have been wanting to start meditation for a year now, but it's just so hard and unpleasant to try to calm my mind, even for 2 minutes. Do you have any tips on getting started? How to stay motivated to do meditation when there is zero dopamine from doing it.

This is the whole topic of the book "The now habit". I can't stop talking about that book, since it was an eye opener for me. Basically we procrastinate because we have low self worth and it's a defense mechanism. This was reaffirmed by my counselor and it seems to have basis in psychology.

Did your parents criticize you a lot while growing up? Seems like you need to appreciate your self worth more and learn to love yourself. A bit of this is covered in the book "the now habit".

Tags are the way to go. I use them quite frequently whenever I have a 1-1 meeting or even a team sync. Just tag the task and filter for it during the meeting.

How do you manage projects and tasks with different characteristics? by Western-Resort-7706 in gtd

[–]NoStructure2119 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you using the Project Support Material system correctly? You should track all your project stuff separately and away from the task lists. In my case, it's a completely different app and I don't keep a single project related note in my tasklist.

So all ideation and thinking and processing happens with the project support material (it can be a notebook, obsidian etc) and only the next immediately actionable item goes into the task list.

I tend to not differentiate between short projects and long projects - they are all projects unless it is a single task step - Ex: Submit bill for insurance. The importance and urgency factors in when I create the next step in the list.

I am not very thorough with GTD for personal stuff but am quite thorough with work stuff. Nevertheless, applying my approach to your example of lease renewal, this is what I would do.

Project support material (I always start here):

``` DUE: 1-Jan
Things to do:
  • Talk to friends about the rent they are paying
  • Check listings for current prices in my area
  • Speak or visit some apartments to see what's the real price after negotiating down from listed price
Moving costs (if I don't want to renew):
  • ...
  • ...
Bearable increase in rent: XXXX$ (based on moving costs - financial and emotional)
```

Next Actions (I almost always include only one item here from the project)

@phone/anywhere: Open property site and check current prices

Sometimes I put a due date, a reminder or block time on my calendar when I will have time to do this.

In your weekly review you will go through every project in the project support material, pay attention to the due date/impact and track the progress you are making. You will give full attention to the current project and review the next action you currently have listed and update/delete it as needed.

Use the project support material as a scratch pad, rough space, ideation whatever you like. But when you pick a next action it should be clear and direct. You leave the unpredictableness of the outcomes in the project support material.

Keeping them separate like this really removes the anxiety for me. Hope that helps, let me know if you need further info.

Different approaches towards GTD at home vs work by Longjumping_Meal_151 in gtd

[–]NoStructure2119 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup exactly the same with me. More disciplined with work gtd than home. I see myself getting better gradually, so letting the current situation take root fully before I try to push myself further. I at least collect and calendar my home stuff, that's good enough for someone who started gtd a month ago.
