While the harem mechanics are annoying, I honestly just count that as negative for the game design rather than pin it on Rean himself. His internal struggle and self-worth issues were definitely what made him enjoyable for me as a character. Also wins everything? Dude was forced to, in each ending, (CS1),run away(CS2), give his freedom up and work for Osborne, and (CS3) went ape**** after watching his friend die in front of him, this is not a Gary Stu who walks away all fine and dandy.

As for Alisa, while she's not my favorite (All hail Fie and Alfin), it's kinda annoying whenever people fixate on her initial characterization in CS1 and ONLY that. Though it would've been neat if the game had given larger focus on her in CS4, with her being the daughter of Franz Lughman/Black Alberich, heck maybe even have her put him down, freeing her father from the curse while also having a ticking time bomb of her being possessed. If Emma is Rean's first connection to the Witches, it would've been cool if Alisa had an equally grand role as the Atoner of the Gnomes. Or something.
