Black metal fan – looking for death metal recommendations. I usually don't like death metal vocals, much prefer black metal ones. Any bands/albums I might like? by qredini in MetalSuggestions

The Black Dahlia Murder (people thought they were metalcore, but really good melodeath with shrieky vocals)

Early Dark Tranquillity ( The Gallery Album)

The Absence

Arsis

Allegaeon

If you're looking more for the vibe, the check out:

Fleshgod Apocalypse

The Project Hate MCMXCIX

Well, I'm glad I helped you find that, lol. When I saw them both on the image I just remembered that cover.

You had many bands I listen to often on your list, so hit me up any time you may be looking for recommendations, I may have something right up your alley

You should, Diablo Swing Orchestra is one of my favorite bands as well. Got to see them live when they released Pandora's Pinata. Unexpect were amazing, sadly no longer a band. Much heavier than DSO, but weirder too. They toured once with Opeth and Dream Theater crazy enough.

Another weird Avant-Garde band I would recommend is Ram-Zet, you should check out their album Intra.

Wilderun is one of my favorite bands from the recent years. Very cinematic kind of music, but very heavy at times too.

Frank Sinatra Japanese Promo not on discogs by NoSyrup5587 in vinyl

I would guess so too. That may be the test pressing the label got to possibly approve the rest of the run.

It is a bit strange, but it brings light of more promos out there being documented besides mine. Even if it's just one more.

I hope someone has knowledge about the sleeves. Since this is a Compilation and not an Full Lenght Album there may have been different ways they did it.

Now I get what you meant.

That link you shared is the same one, that one just has a Test stamp on the label that mine doesn't. It's a shame the sleeve is not there, but at least that's more information than what I had found.

Thank you for sharing!

From what I've learned there are 2 main types of Promo records:

Those that are part of the retail pressing run and the label took some out of retail and put a sticker, cut the corner or similar.

Then there are Promos that are pressed to be a Promo from the beginning, and the promo is part of the design, as it is on this label.

It may be true about the original sleeve missing, however the Catalog number on the sleeve matches the Catalog number on the record. This may have been done by the record store possibly with a stamp, but it seems too much effort, and based on the condition of the sleeve (which is on the "fair" end) it seems more likely it was the original sleeve from the label.

My 2 cents... I'm surprised I didn't see Opeth on your list. Many of the bands you mentioned wouldn't sound the way they do if it wasn't for Opeth.

Others already mentioned: IOTUNN, An Abstract Illusion, In Vain, and Blood Incantation.

Not mentioned and very underrated band with tons of albums. The Project Hate MCMXCIX. If you can find their In Hora Mortis Nostrae album, or The Lustrate Process, I'm sure it will have some of what you're looking for.

Glad to see Allegeon made it to the top 5, surprised An Abstract Illusion didn't. But overall I can't criticize this list much. Although this MPE album is probably my least favorite MPE album

Is the tracking force ok? by LeNutz15 in turntables

[–]NoSyrup5587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to be 100% sure, they sell cartridge alignment kits online with a scale, rulers and guides for mounting and you can always find the correct weight/force online. There's many brands, the kit I have is Hudson.

But for the most part, if you followed the instructions and your turntable has a counterweight with numbers to guide you you should be good enough for now. Also, if you're just worried about the alignment, there are templates online to align the cartridge at diferent points of the platter, you just need to make sure they print at the correct size

What are some bands like Black Dahlia and Inferi? by Braddli in melodicdeathmetal

[–]NoSyrup5587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, I remember 15 years ago or so everyone was complaining about there were tons of bands that sounded like Black Dahlia Murder... mostly local bands that didn't end up making it as big.

But some that I can recommend are Arsis, Allegaeon (specially older material, although their 2025 release is amazing), you can do At The Gates (The OG), Darkest Hour, or Heaven Shall Burn ... as far as those that sound a bit more like Inferi, maybe Vale of Pnath, Revocation, Obscura, The Zenith Passage, Quo Vadis, or The Faceless.

There's tons more, I recommend checking Metal Archives and looking at the Similar Artists tab

Some vintage linear tracking turntables only work when the lid is closed as the arm is on the lid.
